Mo Peanuts Mo Problems
by aka Krebs Brewing Co., McAlester, OK.
Style: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout With Peanut Butter Creme Filled Cookies, Crunchy Wafers Layered With Peanut Butter Creme, Covered in Fudge & Toasted Marshmallow Flavor.
Strength: 13.6 % ABV.
👀Appearance: Deep black in color, with fudge brownie sludge floaties along the top of the glass
💀Head: Mix of dark brown mousse ring and brown sludge. Not the sexiest look but a guy like me likes weird looking stuff
👃🏽Nose: Chocolate peanut butter cups, fudge brownies, caramel chews, to***co, peanut brittle, and cheesecake
👅Taste: Chocolate peanut butter cheesecake, chocolate filled Oreo cookies, peanut butter smoothie, graham crackers and more caramel
🤔Thoughts & Impressions: Aside from the presentation, Prairie nailed it! Maybe some filtering pre-bottling would’ve stripped away a lot of flavor and they decided eh fuggit! This is definitely tasty but let’s be honest here, I think the sludgy head may be a turn-off for most. As far as flavor goes, this has a great balance of chocolate and peanut without being too sweet. You actually don’t taste any bits surprisingly, and it goes down nice and smooth. The barrel aging really gives it some depth too and wonder if these guys will make more in the future. Overall, this is a winner, winner, dessert after chicken dinner! I think you get the point…If you ask me, in the famous words of Ben Stiller, “Do it…do it.”

Conecuh Ridge
by Conecuh Brands, Mattituck, NY
Style: Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Strength: 50.3 % ABV, Aged 5 Years in Charred American Oak
👀Appearance: Burnished copper in color with moderate viscosity that leaves bourbon beads clinging along the glass after a few gentle rolls
👃🏽Nose: Lightly coated brown sugar corn biscuits, sliced apples, white pepper, leather and a touch of minerality
👅Taste: Stewed apples, more white pepper, leather and oak tannins. Surprisingly briny with sea salt, with light touches of vanilla and corn meal.
🏁Finish: Lingering sea salt and peppery notes that dominate the conversation with a few noticeable whispers of brown sugar, as everything else drops off sharply.
🤔Thoughts & Conclusions: This is a bourbon that drinks more like an Irish whiskey. It’s refreshing and light and although you can’t really call it a young bourbon it feels that way. This would be an ideal candidate for a high ball cocktail on a hot summer day for sure. Handcrafted by the makers of to commemorate the opening of the Conecuh Ridge Distillery in Troy, Alabama. Made using their recipe no. 1, and barreled on 10/13/2017. I recommend this dram for the “Whiskey Novice,” those that don’t feel like getting past the tiger just to pet the zebra.

Pirate Weekend
by aka Krebs Brewing Co., McAlester, OK. Style: Stout Aged in Rum Barrels with Coconut, Cacao Nibs and Marshmallow Flavor. Strength: 14.4 % ABV.
👀Appearance: Someone turned off the lights blackness, with a thick viscous body
💀Head: Espresso brown layer that Stays Puft
👃🏽Nose: Thick lathering of brown sugar and English toffee up front, dark chocolate truffles, dried chili peppers, a subtle jigger of rum spice, and as expected toasted marshmallow
👅Taste: Creme brûlée, melted caramel, caramelized brown sugar, more dark chocolate, coconut oil, cloves, cinnamon, glazed doughnuts and more marshmallows
🤔Thoughts & Impressions: I’m an avid fan of Prairie stouts and couldn’t wait to give this a try. So imagine what it was like to discover the first bottle I opened was infected! This is sadly not a unique experience and find that this happens more often than I care for. Luckily I found another bottle at a local liquor store. I even asked if they had a return policy in case the whole batch was infected. I kept my fingers crossed and this one in the fridge for only a few days. This one was good to go and delivered all the flavor I expected rather than ungodly bitterness from being infected. Sweet!!! Yes this one is sweet, but sweet that my hopes of reviewing this one didn’t fail. I’m feeling pretty lucky to be honest, and happy I got to experience this one as intended. This delivers everything the label promises. I like that they used a rum barrel as opposed to bourbon even though the flavors imparted are very close! Tons of brown sugar and caramel but also a rich and full chocolate body and touch of subtle spices. Cheers to being persistent!

Ardbeg Fermutation Special Committee Edition
by Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. Style: Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Strength: 49.4 % ABV, Aged 13 Years.
👀Appearance: Citrine quartz gemstones in color with long sticky alien-like fingers
👃🏽Nose: Tangy lemon drops, key lime pie, leather jacket after being sat by a campfire, white pepper, cayenne pepper, and smoked Italian salami
👅Taste: Smoked Italian salami, ginger root, more key lime pie sprinkled with lemon shavings, brown sugar, soft soot, white pepper, leather and sea salt
🏁Finish: Moderate hug of peppers, brown sugar, sea spray and citrus blend. Overall the smoke keeps tapping your shoulder to remind it’s visiting
🤔Thoughts & Conclusions: Classic Ardbeg with more citrus and ginger than you expect. Their marketing is always impressive and I tip my hat off to them for putting out a unique and tasty release. I almost missed the age statement for just another sticker slapped on a bottle and good thing it was red so I wouldn’t miss it 🤦 It seems this brand is all about limited releases these days and that aside it still has a cult-like following. I’m not quite in that pool since I don’t believe you should blindly hand over your wallet for whatever exclusive bottling hits the shelves. For some reason I don’t see hardly any reviews of Scotch a these days and wonder if it has to do with the limited distro or the Buhloone Mind State 💰our liquor retailers inflict us with. I hear rumors this is changing, but I still see signs that it’s not. I recommend this dram for the “Whiskey Connoisseur,” those that always sock their money away for the latest and greatest, and certainly limited. You have to get through a few core releases before you appreciate how nuanced this one is. That being said it’s delicious! A big shout out to Patrick aka for the assist for science 🧬🧪🧫📝 Thank you !!!

Silkie The Legendary Dark
by aka Silabh Liag Distillers, Carrick, Co Donegal, Ireland. Style: Blended Irish Whiskey. Strength: 46 % ABV, No Age Statement.
👀Appearance: Copper hues with Irish golden emeralds along the glass and heavy viscosity
👃🏽Nose: Sliced pears, apples and ginger soaked in lemon juice, suede leather, smoked brisket, sweet BBQ sauce, sugar cookie, and white pepper
👅Taste: Smoked burnt ends, white pepper, more pears, apples and ginger, savory minerality, soft leather, and a light brown sugar sweetness.
🏁Finish: A soft welcoming of smoke and lingering salt & pepper. The fruit notes drop off too quick for my liking, yet they’re noticeable enough to still enjoy their subtlety.
🤔Thoughts & Conclusions: I’m a big fan of peated whisk(e)y in general and prefer to get all the smoke! I usually have friends over who aren’t as big a fan of the peated stuff but I still do my best to convert them with something that isn’t so agro. This is one of the bottles I think of to initiate them into the conversation. It’s soft smokey character balanced with orchard fruits help them through the door in my opinion. How do I know? Because I’ve had success with peated Irish whiskeys in the past and the one thing I tend to hear is “Mmm that’s not bad at all…” Yes, yes, you want more don’t you? Hmm Mmmm (I chuckle in that Dracula kinda way). I don’t mean to turn this into dark theatre, but after all this is the ‘Legendary Dark,’ so why not?!?! For the value and availability, this expression is a no-brainer. I recommend this dram for the “Whiskey Novice”, someone who’s looking for a gateway to peated juice 🥃💨 This is a blend of double and triple distilled single malts with soft grain whiskey. Lot 210511.

Bourbon County Two-Year Reserve Stout (2023) by Chicago, IL. Style: Stout Aged For Two Years in Ten Year Eagle Rare Bourbon Barrels. Strength: 14.5 % ABV.
Tasting Date: 07/06/2024
👀Appearance: Doubly black and doubly oily and indubitably dubiously dark
💀Head: Soft thin fluffy chocolate clouds
👃🏽Nose: German chocolate cake, dark chocolate fudge, toasted coconut flakes, soy tannins, caramel topping, black tea, anise, cloves, and cinnamon
👅Taste: Dense layer of German chocolate cake, double dose of chocolate, caramel and fig, vanilla extract, anise, cloves, subtle notes of tart dates & prunes, and black currants
🧮Score: 4.5/5.0
🤔Thoughts & Impressions: Who’d of thought a heavy aging in a bourbon barrel would’ve brought so much fruit medley to a stout. Poured blind you’d easily mistake it for a cherry stout or wine aged stout. This is an intense version of your BCS and as lucky as I feel right now to try this thanks to , the more I want in my glass! The extra aging is something fantastic and even better than what you’re accustomed to with this beast of a brew. It’s surprisingly not wildly complex but damn does it deliver what you need. When a stout is this intense there’s not much else you need to say, really. Oh wait, one more thing, please Lawd bless me with some Reserve this year 🙏🏽

In this latest review I share my thoughts on the latest release of Lady Bird Cognac Finished Bourbon Whiskey. If you know about Texas, you know some things aren’t big enough, but does this bourbon deliver big? Who does it speak to?
Whiskey deets:
Lady Bird Texas Straight Bourbon Finished in Cognac Casks bottled at 57% ABV (114 proof). Aged 4-5 years in American white oak barrels, then infused for 8-9 months with wildflower honey before being finished in French Cognac XO Casks for 3 Years.

Cherry Bomb!
by aka Krebs Brewing Co., McAlester, OK. Style: Imperial Stout Aged on Cherries, Coffee, Cacao Nibs, Vanilla Beans, and Chili Peppers. Strength: 11.5 % ABV.
👀Appearance: Nothing escapes the blackness…except the brown oily sheen that is left when swirling the glass
💀Head: Thin, brown froth that lingers but isn’t hefty. Enough to let you know it’s there.
👃🏽Nose: Someone serving cherry pie? Yes, and it comes in a tall tulip glass. Tart and sweet cherries are definitely on the menu, shocker. This is a chocolate covered Maraschino cherry.
👅Taste: Dark chocolate covered cordial cherries. Sweet, delectable, and a perfect dessert beer.
🤔 Thoughts & Conclusions: The taste delivers as expected, no surprises, but it tastes damn good. If you don’t like decadent beers, then this may be a turn off for you. With that being said, I’m a sucker for chocolate covered cherries, and there isn’t much else you could’ve expected. It’s not complex but it is predictably flavorful. I realize there is a lot of ingredients that should be standing out, but they’re unfortunately overshadowed. Perfect for Mr. Monologue who likes to keep the convo simple.
