[12/11/20]   Parents,

I wanted to let you know what to expect next week. CNE will be running on a Virtual Schedule. Students will be working virtually from 10:00-3:00 each day. Their first Google Meet session will begin at 10:00. Teachers will be sending/sharing schedules for next week with you today. All assignments will be due the next day by 8:00 AM. All live lessons will be recorded and available to your student via Seesaw in the evenings.
We understand that this becomes an issue of equity for our students. We are here to help. There is grace in these deadlines. Please reach out to your student’s teacher if there are things preventing your student from participating virtually. We understand internet connection issues. We know many parents are working all day and are trying to catch up at night. Many students are at a sitter, and they are unable to work during the day. Expecting you to sit in your car after a hard day's work in our school parking lot isn’t an option, in my opinion. Just reach out to us and let us know your situation. We are here to help. Do what you can, do your best, but if you can fully participate, we expect that as well. We have plenty of other ways to help you support your CNE student if the virtual week puts more stress on your family during these trying times. Please contact me or your classroom teacher for guidance and support.
One last thing; I have asked teachers to maintain strict office hours. They will be available from 7:45-3:00 each day. If you reach out to them after 3:00, they might not respond until the next day. Many will respond at any given time- that's just who they are. You have a lot of great people that will do anything for your students. Just keep those office hours in mind as you communicate with your student’s teachers. They have their own students and families to attend to in the evenings, and I would appreciate it if they could have that time to tend to their own family’s well being. They will be even more ready to wow your students the next day!
If you need to contact Nurse Chelsea over break regarding COVID issues or questions, please contact her at 260-239-0199. You can also reach her by email at [email protected]. Please alert Nurse Chelsea to any positive COVID cases within your household.

Thank you for your support

Chain O Lakes State Park

Our Jr & Teen Indiana Master Naturalist (IMN) students had a fantastic day on Thursday learning all about Birds and Bird Identification on a crisp day. Speakers included our very own Kaitlyn Sproles, and Tiffany Parker from Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site.

A special thanks as well to the Ignite Trail Series for their generous donation of binoculars to the park that we used for this program and will use in future programs. We couldn’t do what we do without the generous support of our community!

This was the fourth of eight sessions for students ages 9-17 focusing on hands-on opportunities to learn about our Hoosier natural resources. This year the program is sponsored in collaboration with Chain O’Lakes State Park and Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic site. Interested in learning more about IMN visit: https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/6321.htm (Photos by K. Sproles)
