Chris Marotta, an occupational therapist at Henry Viscardi School, taught his OT students attending Stony Brook University how to adapt battery powered toys to be switch accessible. Adapted toys can be very expense to purchase, but this exercise showed the college students how to cost effectively create their own as a way to teach early learning of switches to children with disabilities. Chris also provided instruction on how to make their own 3D switches. Created in a lab setting, the plush toys were donated to Viscardi’s two kindergarten classes. Upon receiving their toys, the kindergarteners gave Mr. Chris a big Hip Hip Hooray!

Since learning of Senator Robert Dole's passing yesterday, we've deeply reflected on his profound contributions to our nation and the disability community.

Senator Dole was a true leader, advocate, and public servant whose commitment to bipartisanship made the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act possible. This landmark piece of legislation has become the gold standard for the international community as countries formulate their own legal principles to uphold the civil rights of people with disabilities.
