At Heritage Classical Academy, a Christ-centered education is more than beginning the day with prayer or including Bible lessons in the curriculum. Christ is the foundation upon which everything we teach and do is built.

We believe that all truth is God's truth, that the world around us reveals the wonder of His creation, and that every child is uniquely created in His image, with gifts and abilities to be discovered, nurtured, and developed for His glory.

From Scripture, prayer, and worship to literature, history, science, and the everyday moments of classroom life, we seek to help children recognize God's hand in the world around them and grow in wisdom, knowledge, and virtue.

But our deepest desire goes beyond academic excellence or even the formation of good character. Our heart is that each child would come to know and love Jesus Christ personally, growing in a relationship with Him that shapes the whole of their life and their eternity.

At Heritage Classical Academy, we believe that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. God has entrusted parents with the sacred responsibility of raising and nurturing their children, and we consider it a privilege to come alongside families in that calling.

Parental partnership is more than a core value at HCA. It is foundational to who we are and how we educate. We believe children flourish when home and school work together, united in purpose, grounded in shared values, and committed to their growth in knowledge, wisdom, and virtue.

As we prepare for Parent-Teacher Conferences this week, we look forward to meaningful conversations about the students we are blessed to teach and the children you know and love so well. We want to celebrate their accomplishments, thoughtfully discuss their challenges, and work together to encourage their continued growth—not only academically, but also in character, faith, and fellowship.

Every child is uniquely created by God, with gifts to cultivate, challenges to overcome, and a purpose to fulfill. Our shared desire is to help each child grow into all that God has created and called them to be.

Yesterday, as I walked through the halls of HCA, the old phrase “the hills are alive with the sound of music” popped into my head. Except I found myself thinking, “Our halls are alive with the sound of learning.”

Room after room was buzzing with activity.

I watched our smiling kindergartners return from outside, proudly carrying their cups of soil with newly planted seeds after studying seeds in their weekly enrichment curriculum.

From first grade came the rhythmic thump of Boomwhackers as students explored sound after an integrated week of learning that connected their read-aloud, Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears, with the science of sound and even a history lesson on Alexander Graham Bell.

Sixth graders gathered excitedly around a table, placing the final few pieces into one of the puzzles in their classical art puzzle gallery during their special enrichment block. They were especially excited about Van Gogh’s Sunflowers puzzle, recognizing a masterpiece they had encountered just weeks before when they created their own sunflower paintings in art.

Entering the gym, I heard the cheers of fifth grade at the end of a PE game, while outside, fourth graders filled a beautiful afternoon with playful laughter and the easy camaraderie of friends enjoying time together.

Some moments were quieter. Through a closed door, I could see second graders seated together on the floor with their teacher, gathered closely around her as she continued reading Carry On, Mr. Bowditch, carrying them away from the classroom and out onto the open sea—to creaking ships, salty air, billowing sails, and the adventures of a young Nathaniel Bowditch.

In third grade, students gathered closely around the art piece of the week, studying the masterpiece before them as their art teacher drew their attention to its details, techniques, and beauty, then described how they would soon take what they had observed and create works of their own.

Seeds and sound. Art and literature. Puzzles and play. Learning and laughter.

It is a privilege to walk these halls and witness the joy of learning, the deepening of fellowship, and the strengthening of character that happens in countless little moments throughout the school day.

Our halls really are alive—and I am so thankful for the teachers who faithfully pour into our students, for the children we have been entrusted to teach, encourage, and help flourish, and above all, for a faithful God who lovingly orchestrates, leads, provides, and sustains the work happening within these walls each day.

What should a five-year-old’s first year of school look like?

We believe it should be filled with wonder, stories, songs, discovery, beautiful language, meaningful work, and joyful learning—all within a classroom where Christ is not an addition to education, but the center of it.

At Heritage Classical Academy, kindergarten begins a distinctly Christ-centered, classical education.

Children learn to listen carefully, speak clearly, work diligently, treat others with courtesy, and delight in discovering the world God has made. They build strong foundations in reading and mathematics while encountering Scripture, history, science, music, poetry, art, and great stories.

And because education is about more than accumulating information, we are also cultivating the habits and character that shape how children learn and grow: curiosity, attentiveness, perseverance, self-control, and responsibility.

We want our youngest students to discover early that learning is good, truth is worth pursuing, beautiful things are worth noticing, and doing something well brings its own satisfaction.

This week during assembly, we have been learning about the miraculous gift of the U.S. Constitution as we prepare to celebrate Constitution Day.

Today, our students and staff joined in the celebration by dressing in red, white, and blue and other patriotic gear. Following our time of worship, we closed assembly by reading the First Amendment together and talking about the freedoms it protects. We reflected especially on the blessing we experience every day at HCA—the freedom to gather together, worship God, read His Word, and pray freely.

Then, every student received his or her own pocket Constitution. We encouraged them to read it and know it, because our Constitution begins with three important words: “We the People.” A government entrusted to the people calls for citizens who understand the principles, responsibilities, and limits of that government.

We also considered Acts 17:26 and the truth that God has determined the times and places in which people live. Our students are here, at this time, in this nation, for a purpose. We asked them to begin thinking about what purposes the Lord might have for them in the life of our country as they grow.

What a joy it was afterward to watch students immediately open their Constitutions and begin reading—some while sitting in the gym and others still reading as they walked back to class!

As James Madison, the “Father of the Constitution,” wrote: “It is universally admitted that a well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”

We are grateful for the opportunity to help our students understand the history, freedoms, and responsibilities they have inherited—and to encourage them to consider how they might faithfully steward those gifts in their own generation. 🇺🇸

🏃 HCA CROSS COUNTRY MAKES HISTORY! 🏆

What a great day for HCA Cross Country! Our runners continue to improve with every practice and every race—and yesterday, our boys’ team brought home HCA’s first-ever first-place cross country finish and our first team plaque! 🏆

Competing against runners from six schools on a challenging, hilly 1.9-mile course, our boys finished with a team score of 28 points to take 1st place! We saw tremendous improvement across the team, with our runners finishing stronger, sprinting through the line, and showing how much they have grown since the beginning of the season.

And our only girl runner had a fantastic race as well, finishing 5th overall among 13 girls! Way to represent HCA!

As exciting as the results were, we were just as proud of how our students competed. They encouraged one another, showed respect to their competitors, and demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship throughout the meet. Winning is exciting, but learning to compete with perseverance, humility, and character is an even greater victory.

Congratulations to all of our runners for making a little HCA history! We are proud of you!

We’re looking for a volunteer to help facilitate a Chess Club for our 5th and 6th grade students!

You don’t have to be a chess master—just someone who enjoys the game, works well with students, and would love to help them grow in strategy, patience, problem-solving, and good sportsmanship.

Our hope is to give students a fun opportunity to learn, play, challenge one another, and sharpen their thinking along the way.

Today was an exciting first for HCA—our Cross Country team competed in its very first meet, the Pfeiffer Invitational!

It was a HOT morning, but our runners pushed through, encouraged one another, and represented HCA so well. Many of our runners set new personal records, and Campbell, our only girl runner, had an especially strong showing, finishing 14th and bringing home a medal! 🏅

We are proud of the effort and commitment our runners showed—not only in today’s race, but in the weeks of practice leading up to it.

A special thank you to Pastor Jonathan for investing his time and energy in our runners, and to all of the parents who help at practices, cheer from the course, and support our team.

For all of you planners and early vacay bookers 😄, here it is—our 2027–28 school calendar!

But as exciting as it is to look ahead at first days, holidays, and last days, there’s something even more exciting about seeing a new school year laid out before us: thinking about all the students and families who will fill those days.

We don’t yet know all the new names or faces that will be part of Heritage Classical Academy in 2027–28, but the Lord does. We trust Him to draw the families He intends to be part of this community, and we trust His purposes for every student, teacher, friendship, lesson, challenge, and joyful moment He has already prepared for us.

As we look ahead, our prayer is the prayer of Moses:
“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 (ESV)

There are a lot of little boxes on this calendar—but what a gift to think of all the ways the Lord may use those days. We’re grateful for where He has brought us, and excited to see what He has in store for 2027–28!
