The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrated the 65th anniversary of The Shoe Box with a ribbon cutting at their Dawson Road location. This milestone recognizes more than six decades of service from a family-owned local business that has been a cornerstone of Albany since first opening downtown in 1959. Now in its fourth generation of leadership, The Shoe Box continues its tradition of quality, customer care, and community connection. Over the years, the business has grown and expanded to its current location on Dawson Rd. The Shoe Box offers a wide variety of footwear, carrying popular brands that meet the needs of every member of the family. From children’s shoes to men’s work boots, as well as dress shoes and casual options, their selection makes them a trusted destination for all occasions. Generations of families in Albany have found shoes for life’s milestones at The Shoe Box Work & Outdoor, and the Albany Area Chamber is proud to recognize their continued success. Their longevity is a testament to the strong relationships they’ve built with their customers and community. Exciting news for families in our community! Flint Academy officially opens its doors on September 8 to provide specialized support for students with IEPs and 504 plans.

Led by certified special education teacher Kellie Nix, who also holds a dyslexia endorsement and brings years of experience, Flint Academy is designed to help students excel academically, grow socially, and build confidence.

Serving up to 20 students, Flint Academy offers personalized instruction Monday–Thursday from 1–6 p.m. (closed Fridays). Tuition is $500 per month for four hours of weekly support.

This innovative program creates a safe, structured environment where students can thrive with the guidance and expertise they need.
