New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has made huge steps in NY to make child care more affordable for families. In her last budget, she allocated funds from NYS and federal funds given to NYS towards CCAP which is making child care funding available to all families who are at or below 85% of the median income in the state. Governor Hochul also made NYS only 1 of 2 states in the country where if the median income raises, so will the income guidelines for CCAP. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has spent much of her career working towards making child care more affordable for families and partnered with Governor Hochul to make this a reality.
When Governor Hochul started looking for a site to announce this exciting news, Club Fed Child Care Center - a GSA center in the Leo O'Brien Federal Building in Albany, NY - was the top choice for the press release.
The Club Fed team has developed and grown Club Fed over the last thirty-five years and was able to showcase a wonderful GSA center to the entire state. Club Fed has been a leader in supporting families to get funding for child care through programs like CCAP and Child Care Aware for years. Part of the tour at Club Fed includes talking about different funding streams to ensure that parents are aware of all the great resources available to them and to ensure that they do their work to support families in being able to afford child care. Club Fed has also been a leader in the industry in providing high quality learning for children and families. They have been NAEYC accredited since the early 90s and were the chosen pilot program for QualityStarsNY - a quality rating program statewide - and have always been a 5 star quality program. Governor Hochul and Senator Gillibrand both congratulated the entire team for the wonderful learning and care given to each child at the center and for all of the support they give to families. They toured the classrooms and met with teachers and children and were able to see firsthand the work Club Fed does. During the press release they both highlighted what they saw and a parent, Ayesha Geter, also spoke about what Club Fed has meant for her family.
