What is the difference between Computer Engineering and Computer Science? Both departments (Computer Engineering and Computer Science) are within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Computer science is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications. Computer Scientists are specialized in the realm of algorithms, software and programming. Computer scientists are scientists and mathematicians who develop ways to process, interpret, store, communicate, and secure data. Engineering applies the laws of science and mathematics to solve problems and find practical uses for scientific discoveries. In addition to understanding much of what the Computer Scientist knows, the Computer Engineer is knowledgeable about hardware functionality at the circuit component level, as well as system integration between computer and network. What are the job opportunities? Computer engineers are highly sought after for careers in industry, government, and academia and command among the highest starting salaries for any BS degree!
