Albany Technical College Adult Education Department Our goals are to motivate students to achieve their maximum potential, to promote family and workplace literacy for a high quality of life.

The purpose of Albany Technical College's Adult Education Program is to provide high quality services of adult literacy, basic skills training, English as a second language and instruction leading to a high school equivalency diploma (GED). Our goals are to motivate students to achieve their maximum potential, to promote family and workplace literacy for a higher quality of life, to foster life-long learning and to provide a literate, technically competent workforce for business and industry in our service delivery area.

๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ“š Day 5: Celebrating Our Literacy Champions! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ†

As we close out National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, weโ€™re celebrating another Literacy Championโ€”Tyree Tyson!

Last year, Tyree enrolled in Albany Technical College Adult Education at our Lee County site and, in just a short time, successfully completed her GED. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

But she didnโ€™t stop there! Tyree continued her journey at Albany Technical College, completed the Salon and Spa Support Specialist Certificate, and is now enrolled in the Cosmetology for Licensure Certificate program, continuing to work toward her career goals.

Tyreeโ€™s journey is a great example of what Adult Education is all about: earn the credential, discover a pathway, and keep moving forward!

๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ“š Day 5: Celebrating Literacy Champions!

As we close out National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, weโ€™re celebrating Literacy Championsโ€”individuals whose stories demonstrate the life-changing power of education and who continue to inspire others to reach their goals.

Our Literacy Champion, Sandra Sutton, Albany Technical College Retention Coordinator, knows the Adult Education journey firsthand. Sandra earned her GED through Adult Education and continued pushing forward, ultimately earning both her bachelorโ€™s and masterโ€™s degrees! ๐ŸŽ“

Today, she uses her experience to encourage and support other students along their educational journeys. Her story is a powerful reminder that literacy opens doors, education creates opportunities, and your starting point does not have to determine your destination.

Day 4: Connecting Our Students to Resources!

Day 4 of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week was all about supporting the whole student!

Our Mini Resource Fair gave Adult Education students an opportunity to connect with campus and community partners and learn about resources available to support them beyond the classroom. Because student success isnโ€™t just about academicsโ€”itโ€™s also about making sure students know where to turn when they need support. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

Yesterday was Day 3: Sock It to Literacy & Game On for Literacy! ๐Ÿ“š

The fun continued during National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week as our students celebrated literacy with crazy socks, games, learning, and a little friendly competition! ๐ŸŽ‰

Day 3 was all about showing that learning doesnโ€™t always have to happen behind a desk. Through game-based activities, students put their literacy and numeracy skills to work while building confidence, connecting with one another, and having FUN!

And what better day to celebrate than National GED Day! ๐ŸŽ“ We want to recognize every student who is working toward earning their GED/HSE, every graduate who has already crossed that finish line, and the instructors and staff who help make those accomplishments possible.

The celebration continued for National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week with a little friendly competition!

Today, 15 Adult Education students put their literacy skills to the test in our Spelling Bee, competing for cash prizes awarded to our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!

๐ŸŽ‰ Day 1: Career Day! ๐ŸŽ‰

Albany Technical College Adult Education kicked off National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week with a powerful reminder of where education can lead. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ“

Our students began the day with Sandra Sutton, ATC Retention Coordinator, who poured into them by sharing her own journey as a former Adult Education student. Sandra spoke openly about the challenges she faced, earning her GED, and continuing her education to earn both her bachelorโ€™s and masterโ€™s degrees.

Her message was encouraging, relatable, and empoweringโ€”reminding our students that the road may not always be easy, but their goals are still within reach. ๐Ÿ’™

Students then toured several Albany Technical College program labs, including Cosmetology, Welding, Healthcare, and Automotive, giving them an opportunity to see firsthand the career and educational possibilities available after Adult Education.

What a great way to begin a week focused on celebrating literacy, opportunity, and student success!

Albany Technical College Adult Education recently celebrated the retirement of Wesley Williams, our dedicated Calhoun County Adult Education Instructor, who has faithfully served students since 2014. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ“

For more than a decade, Mr. Williams has made a lasting impact on the lives of countless Adult Education students, encouraging them to pursue their goals and helping them take important steps toward a brighter future.
