GCRTC provides critical professional learning to build teacher capacity in New York State. There has never been a more necessary time for instructional support.

Using evidence-based practices, collaboration, and classroom research, educators develop the skills they need to meet the current learning needs of students, while preparing them for the future. We believe that students can be enriched by educators who have equitable access to meaningful and innovative teacher-led professional learning.

We are thrilled to share that the New York State Legislature has approved continued funding for New York State Teacher Centers at current levels for the 2026–2027 school year. This important investment reflects the lasting value of Teacher Centers and the meaningful impact they have on educators and students across New York State.

We extend our sincere gratitude to NYSUT, whose ongoing advocacy helps preserve this vital resource for educators statewide. It is both a privilege and an honor to continue supporting the dedicated professionals who inspire learning, nurture growth, and help students realize their dreams every day.

Big things are happening at South Colonie Central School District!

The financial literacy program piloting this week didn’t happen overnight. It began with the work of Dave Fields at the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center, where he developed a hands-on, real-life approach to teaching personal finance.

Now, with support from Broadview Federal Credit Union, that groundwork is coming to life in a powerful way. The district-wide vision aligned ahead of the NYS mandate, and provides age-appropriate resources at the elementary level while giving HS seniors the opportunity to mentor younger learners.

This is what collaboration and innovation can do.

Yesterday, the Greater Capital Region Teacher Center had the privilege of spending the day at the Elevate to Regulate: Building Emotionally Intelligent Schools Conference, which we proudly hosted alongside CASDA and Capital Region BOCES at Russell Sage College.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Ebony Green, delivered a powerful address on regulation, belonging, and the transformative role emotional intelligence can play in our schools. Her message deeply resonated with educators across the region.

The day was filled with meaningful breakout sessions, including two offered by GCRTC Facilitators: Movement & Sound Meditation Circles and Quiet Wisdom: Contemplation in Education. Both sessions provided educators with time and space to focus on their own wellness - replenishing themselves so they can create sustainable, supportive environments for their students. Participants also explored contemplative practices that can be easily integrated into school settings.

It was truly a powerful and beautiful day of exploration, connection, and collaboration. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in this important work!
