Albany Law School is a small, private school located in the heart of New York State’s capital, where it has educated leaders since 1851. Students have access to N.Y.'s highest court, federal courts, and the state Legislature. Albany Law School offers the J.D. as well as master’s, LL.M., and certificate programs. Thanks to this hearty group of alumni and friends braved a little rain for coming out to the Albany Rural Cemetery this Reunion weekend! Among the gravesites include the law school's three founders—Amos Dean, Ira Harris, and Amasa Parker—as well as pioneering alumni James Campbell Matthews, Class of 1870, the School’s first African American graduate, Kate (Katherine) Stoneman, Class of 1898, its first female graduate, and Ruth Miner, Class of 1920, first staff attorney at the Albany Legal Aid Society.

Day 2 of Reunion Weekend is here! 🎉

Today, Albany Law comes alive with opportunities to reconnect, reminisce and celebrate the many generations that make up our community.

From this morning’s Senior Partners Breakfast, honoring the Classes of 1976 and earlier, to our luncheon celebrating alumni in government and public service, today is filled with chances to catch up with old friends and colleagues.

This afternoon, alumni will reconnect with today’s students through open houses and receptions for our law journals and Moot Court, while others take a trip down memory lane with a tour of the Schaffer Law Library, celebrating its 40th anniversary.

And we’re not done yet. Tonight brings the President’s Reception, the 2026 Blue Jackets Induction Ceremony, and the Class of 1976’s 50th Reunion.

One day. So many ways to reconnect. 175 years of Albany Law.

Today, we kicked off our 175th Reunion celebration in Downtown Albany with the unveiling of a new historical marker at the original site of Albany Law School, where our story began in 1851.

Now, this permanent marker stands as a reminder of Albany Law’s roots and the generations of students, alumni, faculty and friends who have shaped our community over the past 175 years.

As Reunion Weekend gets underway, we’re proud to begin the celebration at the very place where it all started.

This morning, the Albany Law School community gathered to honor those lost on September 11, 2001.

We also honor those who continue to keep that spirit of service alive. Among them is our own Professor Michael Hutter, who has made an impact through pro bono advocacy to help secure critical support for volunteers who risked their health and safety in the aftermath of the attacks.

The U.S. Treasury Department and IRS proposed regulations that would make private educational institutions ineligible for federal tax-exempt status if they discriminate based on race, color or national or ethnic origin. The agencies estimate the proposal could affect as many as 18,000 private K-12 schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions – with the exception of those with religious missions.

The proposal would apply to admissions, scholarships and loans, athletics and other school-administered or supported programs. The proposed regulations are subject to a 60-day public comment period, and the IRS will have to schedule a public hearing if it’s requested. If finalized, the regulations would apply to taxable years beginning on or after May 31, 2027.

Albany Law School Professor Randle Pollard weighed in on what this could mean for hundreds of institutions around the country and what legal precedent exists around this issue.

Cecka also sheds light on her law review article, "Don’t Just Ask the Kids: Toward a More Deliberate Approach to Child Advocacy." She also offers invaluable insights on what parents should do if CPS comes calling, the frequency and effectiveness of these investigations, and the reforms needed to protect families from the misuse of the child welfare system.
