Students in Mrs. Howes’s classes used their knife skills in class today to kick off Louisiana Culinary Week. They started Monday off with none other than red beans! Students learned the tradition behind cooking red beans on Monday and why we add ham and other protein to our recipes! Students then used their knife skills to cut onions, bell peppers, and celery; also known as the Cajun Holy Trinity in cooking! Students then created “Red Bean Take Home Bags!” Each bag includes one pound of red beans, 2 cups of rice, 2 cups of seasoning, and their red bean recipe. Students are encouraged to use their take home bags to cook a meal for their family! Students are also encouraged to take pictures of the process and send to Mrs. Howes to include on the department’s new Instagram page! And as always, remember to add our classroom hashtag... #howesitmade!
