The girls had a pretty good meet Saturday finishing sixth among small schools. We had four girls run faster than they did at Darlington last week. Emersen finished 18th overall improving her time from last week by over 20 seconds. Diem ran well improving her season best time by 15 seconds from Darlington. Right behind Diem was Maycee, who had the best race of the day improving her season best time by over 1:30! Lydia ran over 30 seconds faster than Darlington to improve her season best time, and Ellie ran the same exact time as she did at Darlington, which was her career best! The Smiley Invite was a fast course for the girls last year, so hopefully we will have a great week of practice, and get everyone feeling good so we can challenge the teams from the North.
The boys also had a good meet Saturday finishing third behind Brookwood and Fennimore who are two of the top teams in D3. Noah, Kamden, and Brooks finished 13th, 14th, and 15th respectively. Noah improved his season best time from last week by a few seconds. Kamden improved his career best by a couple of seconds from last year. Brooks equaled his career best from last year. Brodyn also ran a career best by a couple of seconds. Some of the Juniors have ran a faster 5K at conference in Riverdale their freshman year, but they are not sure they want to count that due to how easy that course is. Michael ran pretty close to the same time as he did last week at Darlington. Merrick and Aaron made their varsity debuts Saturday and proved they belong, improving their times from Darlington by 37 seconds and 19 seconds respectively.
Adrian was our only runner on JV, and he also had a good day improving his time from Darlington by 40 seconds. Smiley Invite allows you to run eight on Varsity, so Adrian will get to run his first varsity race on Saturday.
The Smiley Invite features a lot of very good small school teams from the North, so it will be fun to see how the boys compete against them this weekend.
We also had an exciting day of MS running as well. On the girls side, Ayla Vozka led the team running the course in 11:29. Next was Tenley Doescher improving her time from last year by over 30 seconds. Brielle Monson finished closely behind Tenley, and Addison Kopp finished pretty close to Brielle running pretty close to the same time as last year. Addisyn Brewer was next running over a minute faster than last year, and RaeLynn Niemeier improved her time from last year by over 20 seconds. They practiced really hard on Thursday, so it was good to see them run well Saturday.
The MS boys also ran well Saturday led by Easton Krupke who improved his time from last year by about 30 seconds. Lane Kuebli was next for the boys breaking 12:00 for the 2500m course. Mitchell Ginter also ran well closing the gap on Lane from Tuesday.
Middle School doesn’t have a meet until Fennimore, so hopefully they will continue to work hard and gain some confidence to keep improving the last few weeks of their season.
