English Language Community Program For Students in Albany, New York areas

The program will start on Tuesdays, February 15 (until April 5, 2022) at Humanities Building 115 at 7PM at the UAlbany Uptown Campus.

Please come join us at the English Language Communities Classes whether you are immigrants or refugee adults, English language learners, international students, or international scholars within the Albany areas.

By participating in this class, students will have an opportunity to sharpen and improve their English communicative competence. The instructors are passionate teacher candidates in the Teaching English for Other Speakers of Languages (TESOL) program who have been trained to work with adult learners and language users from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Note: After registration, students will receive more info about the exact classrooms and free parking lot. Participants can also scan the flyer's QR code or follow the link. The classes will be delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 PM at UAlbany Uptown Campus. $30 will be collected from each student for class expenses and copied materials.

English course for Albany communities (Feb- April 2022)

"English Community Classes" will be taught by TESOL graduate students in our TESOL Program (Educational Theory and Practice Department, School of Education) at UAlbany in Spring 2022.

The classes are open to all UAlbany international students, non-UAlbany students, or people from all walks of life in Albany communities. There will be three levels of language proficiency ranging from beginners to advanced ones, with a focus on communicative abilities. Classes are scheduled from 7 to 9 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The classes will be face-to-face (modifications of the instructional format will be determined otherwise contingent upon the COVID 19 conditions or weather emergencies). The fee for the course is for making materials and handouts which are $30 for two months (2 sessions/week and 2 hours/session) and a free parking lot will be provided. All learning materials will be provided by the instructors.

Educational Theory & Practice, Communication has prepared many generations of English language teachers who later work in different professional contexts regionally and internationally. Congratulations to Beverly Beaudette for being awarded a Fulbright ETA to Belgium. She is excited to teach English, learn more about Belgian culture, improve her French, and learn some Dutch! Beverly graduated from UAlbany with a MS in TESOL and also holds a double degree from Siena College (BA French, BS Accounting). She has presented research at the NYS TESOL and the TESOL International conferences and currently teaches English as a New Language for grades K-5 in Guilderland. Beverly is interested in multilingual and multi-culturally responsive educational practices and literacy for English Language Learners. In her free time she enjoys reading, baking, and spending time outdoors in her hammock.

The Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Master of Arts in Communication Dual Degree

The Dual Master's Degree Program in Communication (M.A.) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL – M.S.) serves the interests of students who want to teach English as a second or foreign language, and who want to enrich the foundation they have for teaching a foreign language by studying communication processes as well. The program also serves the interests of students in the field of interpersonal and intercultural communication who are interested in getting overseas experience, and while there support themselves by teaching English as a Foreign Language, and to international students in U.S. institutions.

The combination of the two programs achieves greater efficiency than pursuing each degree separately, reducing the total credits required from 69 to 57. These 57 credits are distributed as follows: Common Core Courses (12); Communication Courses (21) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Courses (24).
