Mrs. Hanning dedicated 32 years to education, including 30 years at Alexander Jr./Sr. High School as both an English Language Arts teacher and school counselor. Last week, a group of Alexander students had their own “Shark Tank” experience, where they created business plans for their own restaurants, including menus, logos, and blueprints for each restaurant’s layout. They presented their ideas to the “Sharks” at Bagel Street Deli-Athens, Ohio and &Grind. The “Sharks” were very impressed by the creativity of the Alexander students! It was a great day for everyone!

Dr. Deb McAvoy, Dr. Blake Regan and a newly graduated Eli Gregg spent a week with sixth grade STEM students for STEM Week. Students learned about different types of bridges and what makes bridges sturdy in relation to the Baltimore Bridge incident last year. Sixth graders designed bridges using popsicle sticks and wood glue. On the last day, they took their bridges to the ARC where Dr. Regan placed various amounts of weight on each bridge. The students watched anxiously to see how much weight their bridge would hold before falling apart. Everyone was excited, especially Elli, to see the bridges hold the weight and then buckle after the bridge had exceeded its limit. Thanks to Dr. McAvoy, Dr. Regan and Eli for sharing your week with us. The students were engaged from day one and pleasantly surprised on day five.
