Adam Rouse’s first-half penalty and a stout defensive performance throughout a drizzly night helped Albany High’s boys’ soccer team to a 1-1 tie with unbeaten Bethlehem on Thursday at The Nest.

Rouse scored from the spot midway through the first half to give the Falcons (2-2-1 overall, 1-2-1 Suburban Council) a 1-0 lead. The Eagles (4-0-1, 2-0-1) equalized with a penalty of their own late in the first half, and both teams were strong defensively during the second half to earn a point apiece.

Junior goalie Evan Bermejo, central defenders Kyan Grant and John Wah, and midfielder Jerry González turned in standout performances for the Falcons.

Albany High’s next game also is at home, when Shenendehowa visits on Tuesday. Game time at The Nest is 6:15 p.m.

Each season, coaches and fellow teammates embrace the opportunity to honor the diligence, leadership and dedication of our senior athletes!

At our senior celebrations, each senior will be announced and will be accompanied by loved ones if they so choose.

During the ceremony, our seniors will be gifted a beautiful photo banner, compliments of the Albany Booster Club and their supporters!

Get involved with the Albany Booster Club!

Looking for a way to make a positive impact in our school community? Get involved with the Albany Booster Club!

The Albany Booster Club is a not-for-profit organization that provides funding to support athletic and extracurricular programs districtwide, with a specific focus on Albany High School.

Their first meeting of the school year will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in Room 3220 at Albany High.

Meetings are open to the public and we encourage students, staff, family members and community members to get involved in this fantastic organization.

We hope to see you there!

The Albany Booster Club has your dinner plans covered this Friday night with their Friday Night Lights "Fish Fry" at The Nest!

Come cheer on our Albany High football team as they face off against CBA and purchase some delicious food at the concessions stand to enjoy during the game.

✨ Fish Fry Special for $15 - Crispy battered fish, french fries and a drink

✨ Chicken Tenders Special for $13 - Crispy chicken tenders, french fries and a drink

✨ French Fries Special for $6 - french fries and a drink

✨ French Fries Special with Cheese for $7 - french fries and a drink

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. and the specials will be available from 6-7:30 p.m., or until they sell out.

All proceeds go directly to the booster club to fund programs that support our students.

For the second year in a row, Albany High’s volleyball team has won the Amsterdam ScRAMble tournament!

Our Falcons crushed it on the court, winning 10 of 11 sets played and claiming a 5-0 victory!

A huge shout out to the following student-athletes who played a strategic role in Saturday’s win:

🏐Bria Kelley had 63 assists
🏐Giselle Lopez had 29 kills
🏐Rylie Kent had 16 kills
🏐Ochi Itebe had 11 kills, five blocks and 11 service aces
🏐Chloe Diefendorf had seven service aces and 22 digs

Our Albany High volleyball team opened the season with an exhilarating game against Ballston Spa at The Nest on Thursday evening!

Giselle Lopez and Rylie Kent soared at the net, with nine kills and five kills, respectively. Paige Lemmon also contributed to the offense with 13 assists. Chloe Diefendorf brought a strong defense with 10 digs on the court.

Despite a hard-fought loss to the Scotties, our Falcons showcased commendable teamwork, grit and determination throughout the competition.

Come cheer on Albany High at our next home game on Tuesday, Sept. 15, we face off against Shaker.

The City School District of Albany Board of Education has appointed Joe Sapienza as the interim assistant director of health, physical education and athletics.

"I'm excited to be part of the Suburban Council, to be part of a bigger school," Sapienza shared.

"I'm really impressed with the facility, and the people that I've met are all very committed and dedicated to the school district, so I'm really excited about this opportunity."

Sapienza began his career in athletics as a football coach in 1987 in the Voorheesville Central School District. After coaching at the junior varsity level for several seasons, he began coaching varsity football in 1993 and continued through the 2025 season.

In 1999, Sapienza became the athletic director and continued in that role until his retirement from Voorheesville in June. During his tenure, he helped open a new athletic facility and successfully expanded opportunities to student-athletes by adding more sports offerings to the district's program.

Sapienza will begin his role on Monday. The current assistant director of health, physical education, Glenn Westfall Jr., has accepted an administrative position in another district. A search will begin the week of Sept. 14 for the permanent assistant director of health, physical education and athletics.
