Founded in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) is a private, independent college with a long tradition of academic and research excellence. In addition to Pharmacy, ACPHS offers the only Masters of Biomanufacturing and Bioprocessing degree in the state. This past summer, ACPHS PharmD candidate, Christine Gichigi ’28, was one of only 27 U.S. pharmacy students selected to participate in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Social and Administrative Sciences (SAS) Summer Research Exchange Program.

Working with mentor Dr. Jagdish C. Joshi from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), she and another student researcher explored HIV-associated cachexia and the potential role of cannabinoids in mitigating disease progression.

For Christine, HIV research hits home. More than 3 percent of the population of Kenya, her native country, is HIV positive. And stigma around the disease often shaped how people treated those living with it.

As an institution educating pharmacists since 1881, each fall brings one of our most time-honored events, the Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony. 🥼🥼🥼

On Friday, September 25, ACPHS will recognize more than 100 P1 Pharmacy candidates who are embarking on their professional journeys.

During this symbolic annual tradition, faculty members place white coats on the shoulders of the students, and students recite professional oaths, such as the Oath of a Pharmacist.

Our pharmacy students look forward to this milestone and we hope you can join us to usher our aspiring pharmacists into their professional years!

Kudos to one of our ACPHS students and two of our recent graduates who presented research posters from their Regeneron internship or co-op at the Regeneron Summer 2026 Poster Expo.

🌟Nithya Gutta '27 is entering her fourth year in the BS microbiology program and will be attending medical school at LECOM. This is her second summer interning with Regeneron.

🌟Keyondre Cook ’26 graduated in May with a BS in Microbiology and an MS in Molecular Biosciences and completed a co-op program at Regeneron.

🌟 Lauren Fedun ’26 graduated in May with an MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences and completed a co-op program at Regeneron.

Research excellence is a strategic priority and remains central to the mission of ACPHS and the future Russell Sage University.

ACPHS is now fortifying its research enterprise with a new Office of Research Compliance and Safety. It will be overseen by Dr. Vir Singh who also serves as the institution’s OLAW Institutional Official. In addition, Rachel Toshkoff has joined ACPHS as Laboratory Safety Officer to oversee the maintenance of a safe and compliant environment for all activities. Dr. Jo Carreno will continue to lead the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs focused on the lifecycle of sponsored and institutional research funding at ACPHS.

Faculty and students - as early as in their first year - continue to work closely on examining issues aimed at improving the health of our society. 👏👏👏

Given our impending merger with Russell Sage College, our students and campus communities have a lot more options with our ‘new’ dining services, Capital Eats, provided by Chartwells.

Now, in addition to Gozzo Student Center, students have expanded locations including RSC's Kahl Campus Center, Sage Commons (formerly McKinstry Courtyard), Gator Kitchen and Buchman Cafe. GrubHub is also available for easy, fast pick-up! 😎

This increased volume requires a master and we've tasked Chef Jonathan, our newest dining staff addition, to lead the kitchen team to roll out to a much larger crowd at the Gozzo Dining Hall. 🍽
