Red, white, and blue filled our performing arts center on Friday!
The ceremony opened with a presentation of the colors by the Albany High School Color Guard and then first grade shared what they learned about the history of Old Glory, and other symbols of the U.S.A.
Students also led loved ones in the Pledge of Allegiance and performed two patriotic songs.
Thank you to all who came together to celebrate the Stars and Stripes with us!

Our students were treated to a visit from a "New York Time’s" bestselling author on Tuesday!
Kate Messner shared her story "Axolotl-Ella," a fractured fairytale with an amphibious theme.
After the reading, Messner discussed her writing process and the importance of illustrator collaboration that develops her ideas from brain to book.

Throughout the school year, our PK students have shown a strong interest in firefighters, fire trucks and emergency services. Last week's shortened week was the perfect opportunity to explore community helpers, with a special focus on firefighters.
Students learned about the important role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe, fire safety practices, the equipment and protective gear firefighters use and the different parts of a fire engine.
The week culminated with a special visit from the Albany Fire Department, where students had the opportunity to explore a fire truck up close, learn from real firefighters and ask questions about their important work.
Thank you to the Albany Fire Department for helping bring this engaging and meaningful learning experience to life!

What’s the buzz in third grade?
Virtual reality, that’s what!
A district tech coach visited Caroline Adam, Meghan Bowers and Ellen Santana’s classrooms to lead an immersive and interactive endangered animals classroom experience (bees were just one of the wildlife explored Tuesday).
The VR goggle fun was followed by an endangered species writing prompt.

The celebration continues!
Tanya Viveiros’ class hosted some VIPs Monday morning. Muffins with Moms was a sweet success!
The kindergarteners love spending time with the special women in their lives, showing off their classroom and - of course – the treats were delish!
Stay tuned: Ms. Viveiros is planning a Donuts with Dad event, as well!
