Three years ago, Johnny Blevins quit his job to learn how to code.

Today, he works in IT as a Senior LAN Administrator for the New York State Appellate Division, Third Department.

Johnny was already a manager—but he was tired of managing technical work he didn’t fully understand. He wanted to know how to actually do the work.

So he bet on himself.

After spending years raising her children and managing the symptoms of fibromyalgia, Julissa was ready to consider returning to work. But worried her computer skills were no longer strong enough; and as someone who had always considered herself more artistic than technical, she questioned whether she belonged in a technology classroom at all.

Jocelyn knew she wanted to become a receptionist. But as she looked toward that next step in her career, she realized something important: digital skills were no longer optional.

“Everybody wanted to do digital things, so I had to learn how to be on top of the digital world.”

Former Marine, Nikita Thomas was living on roughly $750 to $800 a month before his career began gaining traction. He eventually saw that grow to a six-figure career in technology.

Can Code helped Thomas build technical skills. It also helped him build confidence.

Today, he describes himself as “self-sufficient, self-reliant.” He's more willing to speak up, take on challenges and expand what he believes is possible for himself.

His advice to the next person considering Can Code is fittingly simple:

The worst thing that can happen is you fail.

In 2022, Ariadna Vanegas-Rubio was working hourly jobs in healthcare and feeling physically and emotionally exhausted. “I was getting burnt out and tired working physically on site,” she said. Then she found Can Code Communities.
