Roots Academy is excited to launch a community improvement project focused on enhancing our playground and outdoor spaces for students.
As we celebrate Juneteenth and honor the values of freedom, resilience, and community, we invite families, community partners, and volunteers to join us for two opportunities to make a difference:

🧹 Community Service Day

Help us clean up the playground and surrounding grounds as we prepare for our upcoming park makeover project.

🎨 Playground Beautification Day

Volunteers are needed to help paint playground games and stencils that will create fun, engaging spaces for our students to enjoy.

Whether you can join us for one day or both, your support will help us create a safer, more welcoming, and more vibrant environment for our children and community.

Today, historian Anthony Cohen and the Freedom Walkers team visited Roots Elementary School with the "Journey to Freedom" Harriet Tubman statue. Speaking to students, Cohen shared insights from Freedom Walk 2026, a monumental journey he is currently leading from May 4 through July 4 that retraces the historic Underground Railroad route from Maryland to Canada.

On Friday May 15, Roots Academy held its last Seed Day of the school year! Students had a fantastic time participating in a variety of hands-on activities throughout the day. Sessions included presentations on financial literacy, public speaking, and nutrition, alongside fun movement opportunities like karate, tennis, yoga, and music.
