NYSSSA School of Theatre
New York Summer School for the Arts' School of Theatre is a program of the New York State Education Department.
You could be one of thirty talented actors and actresses from a New York State high school who will study with members of a professional theater company while attending the New York State Summer School of Theatre. A standing ovation to our 2008 School of Theatre alum, Beth Hyland, for her achievement as a 2025 Edgerton Foundation New Play Award recipient!
Her play Sylvia Sylvia Sylvia won the 2024 Weissberger Prize and will receive its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse on February 4, 2026.
2025 Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards Announced The 16 Edgerton Award recipients will receive extra development after their world premiere productions.

The School of Theatre students' final performance in the Bartlett Theatre highlighted techniques learned in their movement, voice, and improv/imagination classes.
Scene presentations from classical and contemporary works were performed, ranging from Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare to Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau.
