‼ EDIT: ‼ Due to overwhelming excitement for this program, it will now take place on Thursday, February 6th, from 6:30-8:00PM at the Thacher Park Visitor Center. In-person registration is now closed, but you are still welcome to register to attend virtually.
🐸 The frogs and salamanders of Thacher Park need YOUR help!
🌧 On the first warm, rainy night of the year – usually in late February or early March, thousands of amphibians around New York State wake up and begin their annual migration … often across busy roads. Luckily, volunteers participating in the NYSDEC Amphibian Migrations and Road-Crossings Project learn to identify species and collect data during migration night … and help some of New York’s smallest creatures safely cross the street at the same time.
💯 For years, hundreds of frogs and salamanders were known to cross Thacher Park Road during migration night. This year, we’re calling on volunteers to help us collect meaningful data about the amphibians of Thacher Park and help us find current migration corridors in the park.
🤔 Think a cold, rainy, short-notice, and totally fun night of volunteering may be for you? Want to lend a hand to help the frogs and salamanders of Thacher Park? Join us for a virtual and in-person volunteer interest meeting and training session on Tuesday, February 4th, from 6:30-7:30PM. Best for adults and children 12 years and older. All teens and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Register for the Thacher Park Amphibian Crossing Volunteer training by calling 518-872-0800 or by using this link: https://forms.office.com/g/QH7VV147Pu

A huge thanks to our very hardworking volunteers and others who have found scores of cold-stunned sea turtles this week! In a little over 2 weeks we've rescued or recovered 369 turtles, including more than 90 in the just the last day! And, as you can see, the loggerheads are beginning to come in.

Miss teaching my turtle class
It took awhile but the annual cold-stun sea turtle rescue season has arrived! Two juvenile Kemp's ridleys washed in this morning near Orleans and will be on their way to the New England Aquarium for medical treatment. You can read more about the Cape's annual cold-stun event and what to do if you find a sea turtle on a beach. https://www.massaudubon.org/get-outdoors/wildlife-sanctuaries/wellfleet-bay/about/our-conservation-work/sea-turtles
