Giffen Memorial Elementary School

We received a special donation from our friend, and master gardener, Ms. Lynn of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, for our Sensory garden.

We met Ms. Lynn during our recent Walk to School Day! She brought us several varieties including Garlic Chives which our students in the The Radix Center Garden Club planted today.

Ashley from Create Community Studios visited Giffen today and made mosaic flags with students. She will be returning to help us prepare for the African Heritage Parade on Saturday, June 20.

Students will be collaborating on a banner and making their own flags that will be carried at the parade ending at Giffen with the Juneteenth celebration sponsored by the Alice Moore, Black Arts and Cultural Center.

As part of our College and Career Week, a few of our third through fifth-grade students visited the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. They were personally greeted by the president before embarking on a tour, where they learned about various careers in pharmacy and got a special look at how medicines are made. A special thank you to Capital District Transportation Authority - CDTA for ensuring our students made it back to school safely!

Come to our clothing-swap on Friday, June 5th at dismissal to update your child's summer wardrobe while supporting our planet.

We all know how fast our kids grow out of clothes!

Giffen is hosting a Kids Clothing swap next Friday and we need volunteers!
Please consider joining us on Thursday and/or Friday next week as we prepare.

The event will take place on the front lawn at Giffen on Friday afternoon, June 5th at dismissal 3:30.
