Hebrew Academy of the Capital District Hebrew Academy of the Capital District is an independent Jewish Day School located in Albany.

Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy of the Capital District is unique, and fills a niche unlike that of any other private or independent school. We value equally: Hebrew and English, Torah and Math, Derech Eretz and Scholarship. Our Judaic and general studies courses support each other as one integrated curriculum. We graduate students who are sensitive, caring, and well-educated human beings. We prepare them to go out into the larger world as knowledgeable and passionate citizens, well prepared for high school, aware of who they are as Jews, with a strong connection to Judaism and Israel, and secure in their Jewish identity. Our graduates:
- Are well prepared to excel in high school and in the 21st century. They think critically, work collaboratively, are self-reliant, and persevere in the face of challenges. They have the skills and the motivation to become lifelong learners.

- Are well grounded in Torah, Jewish history, Jewish law and traditions, and rabbinic thought. They understand the importance of Jewish unity in spite of our differences, embrace the diversity of our Jewish community, and engage in respectful discourse with those whose philosophy and practices differ from their own.

- Feel a deep connection to the State of Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, understand her importance to the future of our people, and are equipped to defend her right to exist as a Jewish state.

- Hold a world view that is shaped by Jewish values. They understand the mandate to engage in tikkun olam, and do so by treating humanity and the earth with kindness and compassion. They are motivated to work for peace, to correct the injustices in the world, and to make the world a better place.

- Leave our school prepared to take their next steps as the future leaders of the Jewish and secular communities in which they will reside.

REMINDER: HACD's David and Rose Udelson Bray Scholarship provides a one-time $2,000 scholarship to one undergraduate student. Alumni of our school who are interested in applying should submit a brief essay (no more than 250 words) reflecting on their experience at HACD and how it has influenced their current studies or career choice. Please send your essay to Rabbi Dr. David Bauman, Head of School, at [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, May 31, 2026. The scholarship recipient will be announced at our graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
