Back to school season.

Back to school season.

Somewhere in a very familiar neighborhood, there is a classroom.

It’s not currently ready, but it will be.

And there is a teacher, and she also isn’t ready, but she will be.

There is furniture to move and cords to untangle, all of it is a mess. It isn’t pretty, but it will be.

There are bulletin boards to decorate and name labels to make, none are started, but they will be.

There are toys to put away and games to sort, they are not yet ready to be played with, but they will be.

There are piles of paper lining every surface. Files to go through and laminating to finish, none are sorted correctly, but they will be.

Lists upon lists float in the teacher's mind, on her desk and in her planner; all hoping to be checked off. They are not finished, but they will be.

There are copies to make and lessons to plan, they have not been started yet, but they will be.

There are little chairs lined up with little tables, next to tiny cubbies. They are not yet filled with brightly colored backpacks and wriggly bodies, but they will be.

There is a long dark hall without any little feet, but before long excited little steps there will be.

That teacher mama’s own kids are “helping” get the classroom ready. They make more messes, as they burst with excitement about school. They are not completely helpful yet, but someday they will be.

On the first day of school, most little students will cling to their mommy or daddy’s legs. They won’t be fully ready to go to school, but a few weeks in and they will be.

So as that teacher mama shuts off the light on her still unfinished classroom, she whispers to herself “It will be”

And so it will be. It will all get done. It will all be beautiful. Not because of the labels, laminating or decor, but because of all the love and hard work that went into the preparation.

That classroom will be a place for learning, laughing, and growing.
