I'm looking forward to continuing my Playful Writing workshops with The Church Project in Monte Vista!
On the last Thursday of every month, we'll meet from 6:30pm to 8:30pm and get playful! This workshop will be free, and is made possible by the LOR Foundation and Redline's Arts and Society Grant!
This writing workshop is for writers of all levels, though writers should be 12 or older just to make sure they are comfortable with reading and writing.
You can register ahead to make sure I have enough materials for you, or you can drop-in! We'll focus on different writing activities each month. For July, we're going to take a deep dive into narrative points of view! It's going to be a blast.
Hope to see you there!
The Church Project is located at 256 S Broadway in Monte Vista.
Last night we plotted out a story and then drew the pattern of the story, and then drew it again, tapping into different parts of our brain to experience our stories in a new way. The activities were inspired by Jane Alison’s book, Meander, Spiral, Explode: Design and Pattern in Narrative. This was a night where I talked little, and just sat back and let people write and draw. I left feeling inspired, and then, got to see the beautiful full moon on my drive home. All I want now is to create.
So grateful for the opportunity to write and guide and share in creative space. We have one more week at , and then we’ll see what comes next!
Excited to be part of the Del Norte Makers Market, run by Dancing Badger Bodyworks and Nora McBride art ! I'll be there doing my custom poems on my typewriter, and there will be so many talented artists there, too, with their originals, prints, stickers, pins, jewelry, pottery... you won't want to miss this day!
Join us at the Windsor Hotel on June 30th from 10am to 4pm.
Love these pictures from tonight’s workshop! You can still catch me for 2 more classes this month!

Taking a hiatus for May. If this sounds like something you want in your life, please contact me! I’d like to bring it back in June. If you have a group of writers wanting to get together for designated writing time, I would be thrilled to work with your schedule as well! I can facilitate online or in person, depending on the location!
Reading and writing poetry this morning. I don’t know what else to do to soothe my heart.
New post at my blog. Link in comments.
I’m behind on National Poetry Writing Month. I’ve written a total of 14 poems, so there’s a chance I’ll complete 30 by the time the month ends, but whether I do or not, I’ve written something and that counts!
Some recent events in my life, combined with life in a white supremacist, imperialist, capitalistic, patriarchal world has my normal low hum of anger boiling up into full-blown rage. Here’s a poem I wrote in the early hours of the morning, before I slept.
*disclaimer: no property was damaged and no physical violence was enacted.
The first April meeting is tomorrow, the 8th!
I’m participating in National Poetry Writing Month this year. For those who don’t know, National Poetry Writing Month is when poets write 30 poems in 30 days. Back in 2015, while still in my doctoral program, my friend Cheryl encouraged me to participate, and I wrote 30 poems that month. Since then, I’ve participated each year, sometimes writing 30 poems, sometimes less.
Because I’m working on my memoir, I’ve decided to use this month as a way to get experimental with my memoir, and approach it in a more hybrid fashion than I have been. I’ve created 30 prompts either from or for my memoir. I might take passages I’ve already written and remix them as poetry, or I might write something completely new, depending on my mood and how the prompt strikes me that day.
I may or may not share what I write. I’ll also try to share prompts from other poets throughout the month, and share poetry that I love, too.
You’re welcome to use my prompts; if you do, I’d love to see what you write! If you share them to socials, tag me here on this page, or on Instagram and/or and use the hashtag and

Have you been looking for ways to develop or deepen a writing practice?
Since January, I've been meeting on Zoom with a dedicated group of writers twice a month to spend time setting goals, sharing accomplishments, and writing.
We begin each session with a writing lesson, and have covered topics such as reasonable goal setting, writing processes, revision, and have practiced meditations to tap into our creativity.
For those members who participate for the entire month, they also receive an email from me with encouragement and writing advice.
If you're interested in joining us, please reach out and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have!
Our next meeting will be April 8th!
