Mission Statement
Our goal is to provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate childcare for all ages, with a focus on the individual child's age and ability to stimulate social, cognitive, physical, and emotional growth. The context of family and community culture influences every aspect of development. Our mission is to help families grow with their children as learning experiences begin wit

h family. We value children’s home language as it is vital to their development. We will work together as a team to gain information through authentic, observational assessments related to the guidelines used to inform families and plan individualized curriculum activities and strategies to help each child grow and develop. We will provide a safe, nurturing, and recreational environment for children in our care. Philosophy Statement
We believe that each child is an individual and as educators, we will value and develop each child's strengths, interests, skills, abilities, and knowledge to extend their learning. Young children are eager learners and even infants are born learning. Our childcare believes all children are capable of learning. The most reliable and informative assessment process is the observation and documentation of children’s performance in activities and routines that take place throughout the day while in our care. We will provide opportunities for children to explore, discover, create, and imagine through fun and exciting activities.

Today, our children became researchers and artists! Instead of simply being told what would happen, we invited them to wonder, predict, test, and observe.

We explored what happens when paper gets wet. Does it stay the same? Does the color change? Does the paper become softer, stronger, weaker, or tear differently? The children were encouraged to make their own discoveries through hands-on exploration. 💦📄

And yes, we use mirrors intentionally! 🪞✨

In the Reggio Emilia approach, the environment is considered the “third teacher.” Mirrors give children another way to see themselves, their materials, and their work. They encourage self-awareness, reflection, perspective, and curiosity. Children can observe their own movements and expressions while also seeing their artwork and the process from a different viewpoint.

Learning Through Rocks 🪨🔢

Today, our mixed-age learners turned something as simple as rocks into a meaningful math experience! 🌿✨

We practiced counting, numbers, and one-to-one correspondence—but the beautiful part was that the activity looked different for each child.

🪨 Older/more experienced learners counted rocks and matched each rock to a number, practicing one-to-one correspondence and number sense.

🪨 Other children worked on counting their rocks using one-to-one correspondence at their own level.

🪨 Our younger learners focused simply on counting and exploring the rocks, building familiarity with numbers and quantity through hands-on play.

This is what intentional teaching in a mixed-age environment looks like. ❤️

We don’t expect every child to do the same thing in the same way. We change the experience to meet children where they are.

One activity can have multiple learning goals, multiple levels of challenge, and multiple ways to participate. That’s how we make learning accessible, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate for every child. 🌱

At State of the Arts Childcare, even a handful of rocks can become a math lesson when we give children the space to explore, count, think, and learn. 🪨🔢💚
