This week Alamogordo Fire Department stopped by with Sparky to teach our coyotes about fire safety. After explaining the gear they must wear to stay safe when they enter a building on fire, one firefighter put all the gear on so students were able to know what to look and listen for if they are ever in a fire. One first grader got to practice how to stop, drop, and roll. All students were able to climb through the fire engine and were given a string bag with some goodies from the fire department.

🧡Alamogordo Public Schools will be celebrating Unity Day on Wednesday, Oct. 21st! We encourage everyone to wear orange on this day to show your support for kindness, inclusion, and bullying prevention.🧡

Unity Day is an annual event during National Bullying Prevention Month that encourages us to join together to create healthier communities through kindness, acceptance of differences, and inclusion. Started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in 2011, Unity Day is now celebrated worldwide. By standing together, we can make a tremendous impact on the lives of young people and demonstrate the power of unity. Let’s unite and focus on the positive actions we can take to build healthier, more inclusive communities.

Last month, our Coyotes celebrated Dot Day, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds's book The Dot. After reading the book, students created their own dot. Mrs. Houze used the dots created by all students in the hall outside the library, and A hall made additional dots to decorate the windows.
The book reminds us to "Make your mark and see where it takes you!"

Thank you Mrs. Larson for bringing this exciting lesson for us!

Reminder! Did you know? 🚌On the 40th, 80th & 120th day of school, APS captures a snapshot of the bus ridership to report to NMPED. The information collected on this day is very important and impacts the funding our district receives for transportation. Transportation funding not only supports students' daily rides to and from school, it can also support in-district school field trips. 🚌 Tomorrow, Thursday, October 8th, if your child is a bus rider, please help us provide an accurate count by having them ride the bus. 🚌
