Abstract - Let’s Get the Lead Out!

Join Mosaic Artist David Jarvinen impart tricks and tips for developing movement and texture using materials. Like our organic abstract class from the past, focused on understanding movement, however this one is bigger 6” x 36” and uses different material for movement. Borrowed from the stained-glass culture we are using ‘came’ to create our movement, then we will echo that movement & texture with smalti, wood, glass, and stone. Please bring lunch or snacks and beverages. Sample is in progress.

The Hummingbirds are Back!
This Abstract Hummingbird Sculpture will make you smile while you create! Beginners welcome! Using Smalti, beads, wire and glass tiles this project will help you understand space and movement. We use colored adhesive to define negative space, so there is no need for grouting! Yea!

Introduction to Metal Clay with Arlene Mornick
One day class: 10 am to 4:30 pm.
Class Fee: $175
Materials due to instructor: $55

Metal clay is amazing - it starts as clay, but fires into pure silver. You can form it with simple tools, even set stones in it, and fire it with a butane cooking torch or small kiln. When fired, the clay-like binders burn off as the pure silver molecules fuse together. This class is designed for both beginning students and those seeking to refresh skills and learn new ones. During this in-depth orientation to Metal Clay students will create a pendant and a pair of earrings.

Andamento: The Magic of Flow

Saturday Oct 7th

Do you ever notice how your eye meanders over a mosaic? How the tesserae guides your eye around the composition? That is Andamento. It addresses how the tesserae are set in a flow or direction that leads your eye. There are 100's of types of Andamento, but in this class you will learn the most common and prevalent setting styles. If you would like to add this to your mosaic technique and tool box, this is a great place to start!

Make something beautiful for your garden!

In this 2-day beginner class, students will mosaic a 12” X 12” concrete stepping stone using colorful, stained glass and glass tile. We will cover all the steps of mosaic creation, from design, tool use, cutting and shaping stained glass, setting, using silicone adhesive, grouting and sealing.

We're still closed,

but remaining vigilant about the virus and it's impact on our ability to re-open. I'm looking at ways to hold workshops and still maintain social distancing and safety for all. It might mean holding our basic workshops more frequently with fewer students.

The way things look now, I'm hoping we can start something up in July or August, but, as Dr. Fauci says, it's the virus that determines the timeline, so we'll be patient. (frustrated, but patient!)

Change can be scary, but it can also be a doorway to new and amazing opportunities. I can't wait to see what's next!
