Saint Philip Neri School

Saint Philip Neri School Saint Philip Neri Catholic School is a Alameda PreSchool-8th grade Catholic Elementary school. Welcome! Technology is infused throughout our curriculum.

Saint Philip Neri Catholic School is a community that truly takes pride in our school. Parents, teachers, and staff work together to educate the whole child and promote respectful, responsible, and reverent life-long learners. The education of your child is important and we appreciate that you would consider Saint Philip Neri. In addition to a core curriculum of religion, mathematics, social studies, science and language arts, we promote 21st century learning. Students are provided the opportunity to collaborate and build communication skills, engage in critical thinking and problem solving, and display creativity and innovation. All students participate in our enrichment classes, which include Spanish, art, music, garden science and physical education. Additionally, middle school students choose between elective courses of broadcasting, media, public speaking, speech and debate, study skills, technology, and drama. Our elective courses reflect our belief in honoring the diversity and dignity of every child by offering a wide array of courses to select. Service learning is an important part of the education of our students. Through service hours, as well as school and class service projects, our students seek to help others. We emphasize the role of leadership and community for all our students. Our Share and Care extended care program is open before and after school and offers seasonal enrichment programs such as art and cooking for students. We look forward to showing you our wonderful school and we thank you for your interest.

Much appreciation for our super volunteer, Mrs. Rhatigan, who invites the classes to pick oranges every year from her tree right down the street. Students get to sample the oranges, learn about citrus, and take one home.

We want to wish our participating middle schoolers well wishes in the Academic Decathlon tomorrow.
The Academic Junior High Decathlon is a one-day competition for Catholic School students in grades 6-8. Saturday, March 2, 10 SPN Middle School students will be participating in the Diocese of Oakland regional competition at Moreau Catholic High School.
This is SPN's 3rd year participating but the first year that Oakland is hosting a regional.
There are 10 events:
Two are collaborative team efforts – a Logic Quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a Super Quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes.
The remaining eight events test individual knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and Music).

Over the last few years, our 8th grade students have participated in a Moot Court project. It is led by a wonderful volunteer and attorney, Anna Rossi. In five weeks the students are versed in the different parts of the court system on all levels and a court case. Some students are attorneys and witnesses for the plaintiff and defendant. Other students serve as the jury. This is a fun and relevant opportunity for students to apply their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights to a real world “hypothetical” case.
