📣 AUSD Days Off + Saturday Nights = More Makering This Fall!
AUSD families — there are a few no-school days coming up this fall, and Alameda Makering is open! Our 1-Day Camps run from 9am–3:30pm, giving young makers a full day of crafting, cooking, upcycled materials, outdoor time, and hands-on learning while school is out. Every young maker leaves with something they’ve made, something they’ve learned, and something they feel proud of! A few spots are still available:
🍂 Fall Harvest — Monday, October 12 — SOLD OUT!
🎃 Trick-or-Treat — Friday, October 23 — 3 SPOTS LEFT!
🦃 Thanksgiving — Wednesday, November 11
🌙 And NEW this fall — Parents’ Night Out!
You make the dinner reservation. We’ll bring the Joy of Makering. On the second Saturday of each month from 5:00–8:00pm, grown-ups get a night out while young makers enjoy a 3-hour hands-on Makering workshop — with dinner included!
🫧 October 10 — Mixie Mischief — Curious concoctions, wonderful & weird.
🫶 November 14 — Made to Share — Thoughtful projects to share.
💝 December 12 — Handmade & Heartfelt — Meaningful projects to gift.
Camps and Parents’ Night Out are open to 2nd–8th graders, with small groups of just 6 young makers max.
Small groups. Big creativity. Real hands-on learning. And, of course, the Joy of Makering.

💛 — Alameda Edition 💛
Alameda is full of people and small businesses who quietly show up for one another, and today I want to say thank you to three who have shown up for Alameda Makering.
🎸 Miss Margaret Scranton
For the past two summers, Miss Margaret has generously volunteered her time with our summer campers. She arrived with her guitar and spent an hour with us playing music, leading fun singalongs, teaching us about the guitar and music theory, and encouraging our young makers to be curious about music — and brave with their own songwriting.
Margaret, thank you for sharing your time, talent, patience, creativity, and love of music with us. Our summers have been better because of you. 💛
Margaret teaches acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, ukulele, and beginner piano to students of all ages at Alameda Arts & Music Studio, 1307 High Street at Encinal. You can reach her about lessons at 510-305-9413.
🌱 Encinal Nursery
The Maker's Garden started with a whole lot of little starter plants from Encinal Nursery — and a whole lot of questions from me. 😊
The good folks there, and especially Lindsey, their veggie buyer, helped me choose plants and generously shared advice and guidance along the way. Thanks in no small part to their expertise, our young makers planted, tended, tasted, learned from, and ultimately enjoyed a pretty great harvest. 🥕🍅🌿
Thank you, Encinal Nursery, for helping our little Maker's Garden grow. If you have a gardening adventure of your own planned, they are a wonderful local resource.
🧵 All Good Living
Every young maker at Alameda Makering gets an apron to wear while they're here — and those aprons get put through their paces! Paint, flour, glue, garden dirt, cooking messes...and LOTS of washing. 😂
All Good Living printed our logo on every one of them, and two years later, the printing still looks fantastic. The colors are vibrant, the printing is precise, and most importantly, it is incredibly durable.
Thank you Chris Tam and the folks at All Good Living for doing such beautiful work for us — and for making the whole process easy, quick, and affordable. Those aprons are part of Makering every single day, and we appreciate you!
💛 And maybe we can keep the thanks going...
Who has helped you along the way?
A local business that went above and beyond? A neighbor who always shows up? A teacher, coach, volunteer, organization, or fellow small-business owner who deserves a little public appreciation?
Consider this your invitation to give them their own .
Because there are a lot of good people doing good things around Alameda — and it's nice to make a little noise about them. 💛

🎃 Friday, October 23 — Trick-or-Treat

Whether kids join us for three hours or a full day, they’ll learn by doing—trying new tools and techniques, cooking in the Maker’s Kitchen, creating at the Maker’s Table, spending time outdoors, and discovering what they’re capable of—we call it meaningful makering.
Every young maker leaves with something they learned, something they made, and something they feel proud of.

💛 Making friends & handmade memories at Alameda Makering Summer Camp! 🌞
🎉 Today was our first day of Handmade Hooray Camp, and it was a HUGE HIT! We explored the garden, baked fresh strawberry bread, used a cordless drill and paint to create custom walking sticks, jumped on the trampoline, enjoyed lunch at the park, and created little pieces of kindness to leave around town. These are the kinds of moments kids remember long after summer ends. ❤️
