Little Seeds Children’s Center was planned, designed, and structured to provide children, ages 12 months to 5 years old with a safe, healthy and creative environment in which they can grow. Our program is based on the philosophy where that by accepting children as they are, placing them in a warm and loving environment, we will be able to encourage the children to attain their full potential. 3rd Annual Pride Parade// The word "Pride" was actually originally an acronym that stood for Personal Rights in Defense and Education, an organization started in 1966 to fight for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people in California. Pride is also defined as the "consciousness of one's own dignity." We use the word Pride to both honor an influential organization and to be proud of who we are.

Pride month is celebrated in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and continues to work to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ+ people. June of 1969, a raid on Stonewall Inn in New York City took place, where patrons and allies of the LGBTQ+ community would come together. LGBTQ+ people weren't allowed to gather, to dress according to their gender identity or expression, to get married, and so many other things that the rest of society were allowed to do. The raid was nothing new, but the response the community had was. They fought back and stood up for themselves and others. Many people were arrested or hurt, but that night was seen as a turning point in the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. It was on the one-year anniversary of the start of the Stonewall riots that the very first Pride march took place. It was more of a protest than a parade, with people marching in the streets. That march has continued in June for more than 50 years afterward. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBT Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world.

Whether you are an educator, parent, family member, caregiver, or anyone engaging with children, it is necessary to create environmentsthat reflect and support the diversity among us. Inclusive practices such as this, are an integral part of teaching children to be proud of themselves and their families, as well as educating those around us to be more understanding, tolerant, and loving to all people. Children need to know that they & their families matter both in and outside of their homes, no matter what the family dynamic consists of.

Invitation to Create, Observe + Explore Ladybugs// It is that time of year again we go to one of our favorite places, Encinal Nursery, and get ladybugs to learn more about insects during the spring season. The whole month of May, we are reading and learning about a whole bunch of different insects. Today was all about ladybugs! To set this invitation, we first read The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle and learned about the ladybug life cycle. To extend the literary experience we painted ladybugs. We set out paint, paintbrushes, recycled wine corks, and lady bugs as a provocation. What we love about process art activities is not one of the lady bugs looked the same. Creating art boosts children's ability to analyze and problem-solve in many ways. By creating freely children gain confidence while acquiring so many skills. It gives them a foundation to look at the world with the confidence that they can accomplish any goal. Visual art deeply affects children, for it is one of the most important forms of communication and expression. When children create, they are proud to be unique and take risks, while honoring their innate creative artistic style. Art provides for limitless creativity while instilling curiosity and wonder in the process.

For next part of the invitation, we simply let the lady bugs loose in our garden. We encouraged the children to observe and explore the7 ladybugs by let them crawl on them, fly around and land on them, etc. With children in the early years, the idea of science is to explore, observe, investigate, test their own theories, learn about the world, and nurture wonder and curiosity in anything they do. Our job as adults is to scaffold, answer questions, and intentionally provide developmentally appropriate knowledge when needed in order to support their process. Children are born scientists, they have a powerful capability of figuring out the world, therefore to continue to support their love for learning, providing experiences such as this continues to ignite a child's curiosity and wonder about the fascinating world around them.

Outdoor Art Gallery//Experimenting with different surfaces and varying textures always brings a special spark of interest and engagement because of the open-ended unique process for children.

Process art such as this lets a child experiment and interact with art materials through an enhanced sensory exploration. With a variety of textures, heights, materials, children began to discover that by using different techniques with the paint on top of the textured surface will produce varying outcomes and a different perspective of art. This is definitely a process-not-product invitation, it is very exploratory, creative, messy, and open-ended.

Invitation to Create the Foolish Tortise//The beauty of cardboard and process art is that anything and everything can be used as a canvas or morphed into something creative. Cardboard is such a versatile material that provides a great surface to paint on. Since it comes in so many different sizes, textures, and shapes it allows the children to explore art in a different medium.

After reading our author of the month Eric Carle's, The Foolish Tortise, we decided to create him. For this invitation we set out different shades of green paint, glue, recycled pouch tops, green foam shapes, and different sized/colored pompoms. Experimenting with different media and varying textures always brings a special spark of interest and engagement because of the open ended process for children. Children who engage in art such as this learn to think with an open mind, to look at situations creatively, and empower their talents. They develop critical-thinking skills through making self-directed decisions, how to use different materials, and feel empowered to be creative. By creating freely children gain confidence while acquiring the foundation to look at the world with the confidence that they can accomplish any goal. When children create art, they are proud to be unique and take risks, while honoring their innate creative artistic style.

"Little Cloud" ☁️Water🌧 Play// After reading the story Little Cloud bye Eric Carle, we wanted to further integrate the children's literacy through a hands-on on experience. Books related to the concept explorations are motivating and appealing to children. Information can be gained from these books the in context of a story. The pictures can impart a lot of meaning and information to help the children learn more about at topic, interact, relate their own experiences, and guide the children's inquiry. To deepen their connection to the st, ry we set our MOLUK rain clouds, items the cloud changed into from the story, and filled our sensory table with water. The Rain Cloud beautifully illustrates the cycle of water and magically turns the children into little rainmakers. The cloud works like a pipette and makes simple physics tangible and fun. The Pluï Cloud inspires wonderful stories, observations, and rich language. Water play fosters creativity and enables children to experiment with science and math concepts. Children begin to understand and investigate with ideas such as more/less, same/different, many/few, empty/full, before/after, greater than/less than. Children also learn physics principles such as the effects of force (increasing the waterflow through increased force); effects of gravity (water runs downhill) etc. Water play can also encourage children to try out new ideas and solutions to problems in a safe environment. The social learnings from water play include collaboration, concentration, turn taking, problem solving.
