নদীয়া-উদয়গিরি, পূর্ণচন্দ্র গৌরহরি,
কৃপা করি’ হইল উদয় ।
পাপ-তমো হৈল নাশ, ত্রিজগতের উল্লাস,
জগভরি’ হরিধ্বনি হয় ।।১।।
nadīyā-udayagiri, pūrṇa-candra gaurahari,
kṛpā kôri’ hô∙ilô udaya
pāpa-tamo hôilô nāśa, tri-jagatera ullāsa,
jaga-bhôri’ hari-dhvani haya (1)
① nadīyā—the town of Nadīyā; udayagiri—a mountain from the top of which the sun rises every morning; pūrṇa-candra—full moon; gaurahari—Śrī Gaurahari; ② kṛpā kôri’—mercifully; hô∙ilô udaya—rose; ③ pāpa—sin; tamo—darkness; hôilô nāś—was removed; tri-jagater—of the three worlds; ullāsa—jubilation; ④ jaga—the world, universe; bhôri’—having become filled; hari-dhvani—the sounds of “Hari”; haya—became.
The full moon of Śrī Gaurahari mercifully rose over Nadīyā, likened to the mountain Udayagiri [from where the sun rises]. As the universe was filled with the chanting of the holy name of Śrī Hari, the darkness of sinful life dissipated and the three worlds became jubilant.
সেইকালে নিজালয়, উঠিয়া অদ্বৈত রায়,
নৃত্য করে আনন্দিত-মনে ।
হরিদাসে লঞা সঙ্গে, হুঙ্কার-কীর্ত্তন-রঙ্গে,
কেনে নাচে কেহ নাহি জানে ।।২।।
sei-kāle nijālaya, uṭhiyā advaita rāya,
nṛtya kare ānandita-mane
haridāse lôiyā saṅge, huṅkāra-kīrtana-raṅge,
kene nāce kehô nāhi jāne (2)
① sei—that; kāle—at the time; nija—own; ālaya—house; uṭhiyā—having stood up; advaita rāya—Śrī Advaita Ācārya; ② nṛtya kare—He dances; ānandita—delighted; mône—at heart; ③ haridāse—; lôĩyā saṅge—along with; huṅkār—roar; kīrtan—chanting; raṅge—in exaltation; ④ kene—why; nāce—they dance; kehô nāhi—no one; jāne—knows.
At that time, Śrī Advaita Ācārya, in His own house [in Śāntipura], stood up and began to dance, completely overjoyed. Accompanied by Śrī Haridāsa Ṭhākura, He roared in the exaltation of kīrtana. No one knew why they were dancing.
দেখি’ উপরাগ হাসি’, শীঘ্র গঙ্গাঘাটে আসি’,
আনন্দে করিল গঙ্গাস্নান ।
পাঞা উপরাগ-ছলে, আপনার মনোবলে,
ব্রাহ্মণেরে দিল নানা দান ।।৩।।

ānande kôrilô gaṅgā-snāna
pāĩyā uparāga-chale, āpanāra manobale,
brāhmaṇere dilô nānā dāna (3)
① dekhi’—having seen; uparāga (candra-grahaṇa)—the eclipse; hāsi’—laughing; śīghra—quickly; gaṅgā-ghāṭe—at the bank of the Gaṅgā; āsi’—having come; ② ānande—in ecstasy; kôrilô—they did; gaṅgā—the Ganges River; snāna—bathing; ③ pāĩyā—having gotten; uparāg—the eclipse; chale—on the pretext; āpanār—His own; mano—mind; bale—on the strength; ④ brāhmaṇere—to the brāhmaṇas; dilô—He gave; nānā—various; dāna—charity.
Seeing the lunar eclipse and laughing, Advaita Ācārya and Haridāsa Ṭhākura quickly arrived at the bank of the Gaṅgā, where, in ecstasy, they bathed. Under the pretext of the eclipse, Advaita Ācārya distributed abundant charity to the brāhmaṇas by the strength of His mind.
জগৎ আনন্দময়, দেখি’ মনে সবিস্ময়,
ঠারে-ঠোরে কহে হরিদাস ।
‘তোমার ঐছন রঙ্গ, মোর মন পরসন্ন,
দেখি—কিছু কার্য্যে আছে ভাস ।।৪।।’
jagat ānandamaya, dekhi’ mane sa-bismaya,
ṭhāre-ṭhore kahe haridāsa
‘tomāra aichana raṅga, mora mana parasanna,
dekhi—kichu kārye āche bhāsa’ (4)
① jagat—the universe; ānandamay—full of joy; dekhi’—having seen; mane—in the heart; sa—with; bismay—wonder, astonishment; ② ṭhāre-ṭhore— by means of signs and gestures, by hints and insinuations; kahe—he says; haridāsa—Haridāsa Ṭhākura; ③ tomār—Your; aichan—such; raṅga—jubilance; mor—my; man—heart; parasanna—delighting; ④ dekhi—I see; kichu—some; kārye—motive; āche—there is; bhāsa—indication.
Upon seeing the entire universe overflowing with joy, Haridāsa Ṭhākura’s heart was struck with wonder. Through his gestures, he expressed to Advaita Ācārya, “Your jubilance is delighting my heart. It appears that some special fortune is upon us.”
আচার্য্য-রত্ন, শ্রীবাস, হৈল মনে সুখোল্লাস,
যাই’ স্নান কৈল গঙ্গাজলে ।
আনন্দে বিহ্বল মন, করে হরি সংকীর্ত্তন,
নানা দান কৈল মনোবলে ।।৫।।

① ācāryaratna—Candraśekhara Ācāryaratna; śrīvāsa—Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura; hôilô—became; mane—at heart; sukha—happiness, bliss; ullāsa—jubulation, delight; ② ĵāi’—having gone; snān kôilô—they bathed; gaṅgā-jale—in the waters of the Gaṅgā; ③ ānande—with joy; bihval—overwhelmed; man—heart; kare—they perform; hari saṅkīrtan—chanting of Śrī Hari’s names; ④ nānā—various; dān kôilô—distribute in charity; mano—mind; bale—on the strength.
Ācāryaratna (Candraśekhara) and Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura were also elated at heart. Arriving at the Gaṅgā, they bathed in her waters. With hearts overwhelmed with joy, they performed hari-saṅkīrtana and mentally distributed profuse amounts of charity.
এই মত ভক্ত-যতি, যাঁ’র যেই দেশে স্থিতি,
তাহাঁ তাহাঁ পাঞা মনোবলে ।
নাচে করে সঙ্কীর্ত্তন, আনন্দে বিহ্বল মন,
দান করে গ্রহণের ছলে ।।৬।।
ei mata bhakta-ĵati, ĵā̃’ra ĵei deśe sthiti,
tā̃hā tā̃hā pāĩyā manobale
nāce kare saṅkīrtana, ānande bihvala mana,
dāna kare grahaṇera chale (6)
① ei mata—in this way; bhakta-ĵati—the renunciant devotees; ĵā̃’r—whose; ĵei—which; deśe—in the place, country, land; sthiti—situated; ② tā̃hā tā̃hā—at all those places; pāĩyā—having gotten; manobale—by the strength of their mind; ③ nāce—dancing; kare saṅkīrtan—they performed kīrtana; ānande—with joy; bihval—overwhelmed; man—hearts; ④ dāna kare—they distribute in charity; grahaṇer—of the lunar elipse; chale—on the pretext.
In this way, devotee sannyāsīs in various places, wherever they happened to be, intuited what had transpired. They danced in saṅkīrtana, their hearts overwhelmed with joy, and they distributed charity on the pretext of the eclipse.
ব্রাহ্মণ-সজ্জন-নারী, নানা দ্রব্যে থালি ভরি’,
আইলা সবে যৌতুক লইয়া ।
যেন কাঁচাসোনা-দ্যুতি, দেখি’ বালকের মূর্ত্তি,
আশীর্ব্বাদ করে সুখ পাঞা ।।৭।।
brāhmaṇa-sajjana-nārī, nānā drabye thāli bhôri’,
āilā sabe ĵautuka lô∙iyā
ĵenô kā̃cāsonā-dyuti, dekhi’ bālakera mūrti,
āśīrvāda kare sukha pāĩyā (7)
① brāhmaṇ—the brāhmaṇas; sajjan—the genteel; nārī—lady, wife; nānā—various; drabye—with things (gifts); thāli—plate; bhôri’—having filled; ② āilā—came; sabe—all; ĵautuka—gifts given at the time of sacramental ceremonies; lô∙iyā—having brought; ③ ĵenô—such; kā̃cā—pure, unadulterated; sonā—gold; dyuti—radiance, effulgence, luster; dekhi’—having seen; bālaker—of the child; mūrti—form; ④ āśīrvād kare—they offer blessings; sukha—happiness; pāĩyā—having felt.
The brāhmaṇas, gentlemen and their wives all came with plates filled with gifts and various presentations. Seeing the form of the newborn child, who was radiant like pure gold, they happily offered their blessings.
সাবিত্রী, গৌরী, সরস্বতী, শচী, রম্ভা, অরুন্ধতী,
আর যত দেব-নারীগণ ।
নানা দ্রব্যে পাত্র ভরি’, ব্রাহ্মণীর বেশ ধরি’,
আসি’ সবে করেন দরশন ।।৮।।

āra ĵatô deva-nārī-gaṇa
nānā drabye pātra bhôri’, brāhmaṇīra beśa dhôri’,
āsi’ sabe karena daraśana (8)
① sāvitrī—Sāvitrī, the wife of Brahmā; gaurī—Gaurī, the wife of Śiva; sarasvatī—Sarasvatī, the Goddess of Fortune, wife of Nṛsiṁha-deva; śacī—Śacī, the wife of Indra; rambhā—Rambhā, the famous celestial dancer of Svārga; arundhatī—Arundhatī, the wife of Vasiṣṭha; ② ār—and; ĵatô—whatever, all; deva-nārī-gaṇ—the wives of the demigods, the demigoddesses; ③ nānā—various; drabye—with things, gifts; pātra—vessels, containers; bhôri’—having filled; brāhmaṇīr—of the wives of brāhmaṇas; beś—dress; dhôri’—having assumed; ④ āsi’—having come; sabe (sabāi)—all, everyone; karen daraśan—they behold.
Sāvitrī, Gaurī, Sarasvatī, Śacī, Rambhā, Arundhatī, and all other demigoddesses assumed the guise of the wives of brāhmaṇas and filled vessels with various types of gifts. They all came there and beheld the child.
অন্তরীক্ষে দেবগণ, গন্ধর্ব্ব, সিদ্ধ, চারণ,
স্তুতি-নৃত্য করে বাদ্য-গীত ।
নর্ত্তক, বাদক, ভাট, নবদ্বীপে যা’র নাট,
সবে আসি’ নাচে পাঞা প্রীত ।।৯।।
antarīkṣe deva-gaṇa, gandharva, siddha, cāraṇa,
stuti-nṛtya kare bādya-gīta
nartaka, bādaka, bhāṭa, navadvīpe ĵā’ra nāṭa,
sabe āsi’ nāce pāĩyā prīta (9)
① antarīkṣe—in the the sky, or the intervening region between planets or stars; deva-gaṇ—the demigods; gandharva—singers in the heavenly planets, who are endowed with the radiance of Brahmā and reside in Guhyaloka; siddha—those who have achieved a demigod birth through perfecting the chanting of mantras; cāraṇ—a special class of demigod who reside in Cāraṇaloka; ② stuti [kare]—the offered prayers; nṛtya kare—they dance; bādya—musical instraments; gīta—songs; ③ nartak—dancers; bādak—musician; bhāṭa (cāraṇakabi)—a professional singer of eulogies, minstrel; navadvīpe—in Navadvīpa; ĵā’r—of whom; nāṭ—performance; ④ sabe—everyone, all; āsi’—having come; nāce—they dance; pāiyā—having felt; prīta—happiness.
In the sky, the demigods, Siddhas, Gandharvas, and Cāraṇas offered prayers and danced to the accompaniment of musical instruments and song. In Navadvīpa, dancers, musicians, minstrels, and other performers all came and danced in great delight.
কেবা আসে কেবা যায়, কেবা নাচে কেবা গায়,
সম্ভালিতে নারে কার বোল ।
খণ্ডিলেক দুঃখশোক, প্রমোদপূরিত লোক,
মিশ্র হৈলা আনন্দে বিহ্বল ।।১০।।
kebā āse kebā ĵāya, kebā nāce kebā gāya,
sambhālite nāre kāra bola
khaṇḍileka duḥkha-śoka, pramoda-pūrita loka,
miśra hôilā ānande bihvala (10)
① kebā—who; āse—comes; kebā—who; ĵāy—goes; kebā—who; nāce—dances; kebā—who; gāy—sings; ② sambhālite—to understand; nāre—they fail to, cannot; kār—whose; bol—speech, language; ③ khaṇḍileka—dissipated; duḥkha—unhappiness; śoka—sorrow, lamentation; pramod—joy; pūrita—thoroughly filled; loka—people; ④ miśra—Jagannātha Miśra; hôilā—became; ānande—with ecstasy; bihvala—overwhelmed.
Who was coming, who was going, who was dancing, who was singing—no one could understand. Nor could they understand what anyone was saying. All sorrow and suffering melted away, and everyone became filled with joy. Seeing everything, Jagannātha Miśra was overwhelmed with ecstasy.
আচার্য্যরত্ন, শ্রীনিবাস, জগন্নাথমিশ্র-পাশ,
আসি’ তাঁরে করে সাবধান ।
করাইল জাতকর্ম্ম, যে আছিল বিধি-ধর্ম্ম,
তবে মিশ্র করে নানা দান ।।১১।।
ācāryaratna, śrīnivāsa, jagannātha-miśra-pāśa,
āsi’ tā̃re kare sābadhāna
karāilô jāta-karma, ĵe āchilô bidhi-dharma,
tabe miśra kare nānā dāna (11)
① ācāryaratna—Candraśekhara Ācārya; śrīnivāsa—Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura; jagannātha-miśra—Jagannātha Miśra; pāśa—near; ② āsi’—having come; tā̃re—to him; kare—they make; sābadhāna—heedful; ③ karāilô—they had him perform; jāta-karma—birth rituals; ĵe—which; āchilô—there is; bidhi-dharma—religious duties; ④ tabe—thereafter; miśra—Jagannātha Miśra; kare—does; nānā—various; dāna—charity.
Ācāryaratna and Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura came to Jagannātha Miśra, and carefully helped him perform the birth rituals. Thereafter, Jagannātha Miśra distributed many types of charity.
যৌতুক পাইল যত, ঘরে বা আছিল কত,
সব ধন বিপ্রে দিল দান ।
যত নর্ত্তক, গায়ন, ভাট, অকিঞ্চন জন,
ধন দিয়া কৈলা সবার মান ।।১২।।
ĵautuka pāilô ĵatô, ghare bā āchilô katô,
saba dhana bipre dilô dāna
ĵatô nartaka, gāyana, bhāṭa, akiñcana jana,
dhana diyā kôilā sabāra māna (12)
① ĵautuk—gifts; pāilô—received; ĵatô—whatever; ghare—in the house; bā—or; āchilô—there was; katô—how much; ② sab—all; dhan—wealth; bipre—to the brāhmaṇas; dilô—distributed; dān—charity; ③ ĵatô—whatever; nartak—dancers; gāyan—singers; bhāṭa—minstrel; akiñcan jana—the poor; ④ dhan—wealth; diyā—having given; kôilā—he did (gave); sabār—to everyone; mān—honor.
Whatever gifts Jagannātha Miśra had received and whatever he had in his house—he distributed all his wealth to the brāhmaṇas. He also honored all the dancers, singers, minstrels, and the poor by donating riches to them.
শ্রীবাসের ব্রাহ্মণী, নাম তাঁ’র ‘মালিনী’,
আচার্য্যরত্নের পত্নী-সঙ্গে ।
সিন্দুর, হরিদ্রা, তৈল, খই, কলা, নানা ফল,
দিয়া পূজে নারীগণ রঙ্গে ।।১৩।।

sindura, haridrā, taila, khai, kalā, nānā phala,
diyā pūje nārī-gaṇa raṅge (13)
① śrīvāser—of Śrīvāsa; brāhmaṇī—the brāhmaṇa wife; nām—name; tā̃’r—her; ‘mālinī’—Mālinī-devī; ② ācāryaratner—of Candraśekhara; patnī—wife; saṅge—with; ③ sindur—vermilion; haridrā—turmeric; taila—oil; kha∙i— rice puffed in the husk; kalā—bananas; nānā—various; phala—fruit; ④ diyā—having given; pūje—worship; nārī-gaṇa—the ladies; raṅge—in delight.
The chaste wife of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura named Mālinī, accompanied by the wife of Ācāryaratna, worshiped the baby with vermilion, turmeric, oil, puffed rice, bananas, and many other kinds of fruit in great delight.
অদ্বৈত আচার্য্য-ভার্য্যা, জগৎ-পূজিতা আর্য্যা,
নাম তাঁ’র ‘সীতা ঠাকুরাণী’ ।
আচার্য্যের আজ্ঞা পাঞা, গেলা উপহার লঞা,
দেখিতে বালক-শিরোমণি ।।১৪।।

nāma tā̃’ra ‘sītā ṭhākurāṇī’
ācāryera ājñā pāĩyā, gelā upahāra lôĩyā,
dekhite bālaka-śiromaṇi (14)
① advaita ācārya—Advaita Ācārya; bhāryā—the wife; jagat—the world; pūjitā—revered, worshipped, adored; āryā—venerable person; ② nām—name; tā̃’r—of whom; ‘sītā ṭhākurāṇī’—Sītā Ṭhākurāṇī; ③ ācāryera—Advaita Ācārya; ājñā pāĩyā—having taken permission; gelā—she went; upahār—presents; lôĩyā—having taken; ④ dekhite—to see; bālaka-śiromaṇi—crest-jewel of children.
The wife of Advaita Ācārya, a noble woman adored by all and renowned as Sītā Ṭhākurāṇī, went to see that crest-jewel of children at the Ācārya's behest, with various gifts:
সুবর্ণের কড়ি-বউলি, রজতমুদ্রা-পাশুলি,
সুবর্ণের অঙ্গদ, কঙ্কণ ।
দু-বাহুতে দিব্য শঙ্খ, রজতের মলবঙ্ক,
স্বর্ণমুদ্রার নানা হারগণ ।।১৫।।

du-bāhute divya śaṅkha, rajatera malabaṅka,

① subarṇer—of gold; kaḓi-bauli—a belt; rajata-mudrā—silver metal; pāśuli (padāṅguli-bhūṣaṇa)—toe rings; ② subarṇer—of gold; aṅgada (bāhu-bhūṣaṇa)—armlet; kaṅkaṇ—bracelet; ③ du-bāhute—both hands; divya—divine; śaṅkha—conchshell; rajater—of silver; malabaṅka (pādabhūṣaṇa or bā̃kamala)—ornaments for the feet; ④ svarṇa-mudrār—of gold; nānā—various; hāra-gaṇ—necklaces.
[She brought:] a gold belt , silver toe rings, gold armlets, bracelets, sacred conchshell bangles for both hands, silver anklets, and necklaces made of gold coins…
ব্যাঘ্রনখ হেমজড়ি, কটি-পট্টসূত্র-ডোরী,
হস্ত-পদের যত আভরণ ।
চিত্রবর্ণ পট্টশাড়ী, বুনি ফোতো পট্টপাড়ী,
স্বর্ণ-রৌপ্য-মুদ্রা বহুধন ।।১৬।।

citrabarṇa paṭṭaśāḓī, buni photo paṭṭapāḓī,

① byāghra-nakha—tiger nail; hema-jaḓi (svarṇamaṇḍita)—inlaid in gold; kaṭi—waist; paṭṭasūtra-ḍorī—silk threaded decoration; ② hasta-pader—of the hands and feet; ĵatô—whatever; ābharaṇ—ornaments; ③ citra-barṇa—multicolored; paṭṭa—silk; śāḓī—sari; buni—woven; photo (hāta-kāṭā choṭa jāmā)—small sleeveless shirt/jacket; paṭṭapāḓī (reśamer cādara)—silken shawl; ④ svarṇa—gold; raupya—silver; mudrā—coins; bahu—abundant, numerous; dhan—riches.
…tiger nails set in gold, a silken waist belt, every kind of ornament for the hands and feet, multicolored silken saris, a small woven sleeveless jacket, silken shawls, gold and silver coins, and many other riches.
দুর্ব্বা, ধান্য, গোরোচন, হরিদ্রা, কুঙ্কুম, চন্দন,
মঙ্গল-দ্রব্য পাত্র ভরিয়া ।
বস্ত্র-গুপ্ত দোলা চড়ি’, সঙ্গে লঞা দাসী চেড়ী,
বস্ত্রালঙ্কার পেটারি ভরিয়া ।।১৭।।
durbā, dhānya, gorocana, haridrā, kuṅkum, candana,
maṅgala-drabya pātra bhôriyā
bastra-gupta dolā caḓi’, saṅge lôĩyā dāsī ceḓī,
bastrālaṅkāra peṭāri bhôriyā (17)
① durbā—fresh grass; dhānya—paddy; gorocana—a bright yellow pigment; haridrā—turmeric; kuṅkuma—saffron; candan—sandalwood; ② maṅgala-drabya—auspicious items; pātra—vessel, container; bhôriyā—having filled; ③ bastra-gupta—hidden with a cloth; dolā—palanquin; caḓi’—having mounted; saṅge lôĩyā—together with; dāsī—maidservants; ceḓī—female attendants; ④ bastra—cloth; ālaṅkāra—ornaments; peṭāri—large basket; bhôriyā—having filled.
Bringing a container filled with fresh grass, paddy, gorocana, turmeric, kuṅkuma, sandalwood, and other auspicious items, as well as a large basket filled with garments and ornaments, she rode on a palanquin covered with cloth and was accompanied by her maidservants and attendants.
ভক্ষ্য, ভোজ্য, উপহার, সঙ্গে লইল বহু ভার,
শচীগৃহে হৈল উপনীত ।
দেখিয়া বালক-ঠাম, সাক্ষাৎ গোকুল-কান,
বর্ণমাত্র দেখি বিপরীত ।।১৮।।
bhakṣya, bhojya, upahāra, saṅge lôilô bahu bhāra,
śacī-gṛhe hôilô upanīta
dekhiyā bālaka-ṭhāma, sākṣāt gokula-kāna,
barṇa-mātra dekhi biparīta (18)
① bhakṣya—foodstuffs; bhojya—eatables; upahār—gifts; saṅge—with; lôilô—she took; bahu—abundant; bhār—load; ② śacī-gṛhe—to Śacī’s house; hôilô upanīta—brought; ③ dekhiyā—having seen; bālaka-ṭhāma (bālakera aṅga-saṁsthāna)—the child’s form; sākṣāt—direct; gokula-kāna—Kāna (Kṛṣṇa), or Kānu of Gokula; ④ barṇa—color; mātra—only; dekhi—seeing; biparīta—opposite.
She arrived at the house of Śacī-devī, bringing with her a large load of snacks, treats and other edibles and gifts. Upon seeing the form of the child, she understood that, except for a difference in color, He was directly Kṛṣṇa of Gokula Himself.
সর্ব্ব অঙ্গ—সুনির্ম্মাণ, সুবর্ণ-প্রতিমা-ভান,
সর্ব্ব অঙ্গ—সুলক্ষণময় ।
বালকের দিব্য-জ্যোতি, দেখি’ পাইল বহুপ্রীতি,
বাৎসল্যেতে দ্রবিল হৃদয় ।।১৯।।

sarva aṅga—sulakṣaṇamaya
bālakera divya-jyoti, dekhi’ pāilô bahu-prīti,

① sarva—whole; aṅga—body; sunirmāṇ—beautifully constructed; subarṇa—beautiful complexion; pratimā—image, idol; bhān—radiance, luster; ② sarva—whole; aṅga—body; sulakṣaṇmay—full of auspicious signs; ③ bālaker—of the child; divya—divine; jyoti—light, glow; dekhi’—having seen; pāilô—she felt; bahu—much; prīti—affection; ④ vātsalyete—in motherly love; drabilô—melted; hṛday—heart.
All of His limbs were beautifully formed, glowing with a golden effulgence, and they displayed auspicious signs. Seeing the divine effulgence of the child, Sītā Ṭhākurāṇī and the other ladies accompanying her became enamored, and their hearts melted with motherly love.
দুর্ব্বা, ধান্য দিল শীর্ষে, কৈল বহু আশীষে,
চিরজীবি হও দুই ভাই ।
ডাকিনী-শাঁখিনী হৈতে, শঙ্কা উপজিল চিতে,
ডরে নাম থুইল ‘নিমাই’ ।।২০।।

cira-jībi hao dui bhāi
ḍākinī-śā̃khinī hôite, śaṅkā upajilô cite,
ḍare nāma thu-ilô ‘nimāi’ (20)
① durbā—fresh grass; dhānya—paddy; dilô—she gave; śīrṣe—on [Their] heads; kôilô—she did; bahu—many; āśīṣe—blessings; ② cira—long; jībi—life; hao—may be; dui—two; bhāi—brothers; ③ ḍākinī—witches; śā̃khinī—ghosts; hôite—from; śaṅkā—fear; upajilô—arose; cite—in the heart; ④ ḍare—in fear; nāma—name; thuilô—kept; ‘nimāi’—Nimāi.
They gave many blessings to the newborn child and His brother (Viśvarūpa) by placing fresh grass and paddy on Their heads while saying, “May You two brothers live long.” To ward off any fear of ghosts and witches [because of the eclipse] she gave Him the name ‘Nimāi’ [after the neem tree He was born under].
পুত্রমাতা-স্নান-দিনে, দিল বস্ত্র-বিভূষণে,
পুত্র-সহ মিশ্রেরে সম্মানি’ ।
শচী-মিশ্রের পূজা লঞা, মনেতে হরিষ হঞা,
ঘরে আইলা সীতাঠাকুরাণী ।।২১।।
putra-mātā-snāna-dine, dilô bastra-bibhūṣaṇe,
putra-saha miśrere sammāni’
śacī-miśrer pūjā lôĩyā, manete hariṣa hôĩyā,
ghare āilā sītā-ṭhākurāṇī (21)
① putra—son; mātā—mother; snān—bathing; dine—on the day; dilô—she gave; bastra—garments; bibhūṣaṇe—ornaments; ② putra—son; saha—with; miśrere—to Jagannātha Miśra; sammāni’—having honored; ③ śacī-miśrer—of Mother Śacī and Jagannātha Miśra; pūjā—worship; lôĩyā—having received; manete—at heart; hariṣa—joyful; hôĩyā—having become; ④ ghare—to home; āilā—returned; sītā-ṭhākurāṇī—Śrīmatī Sītā Ṭhākurāṇī.
On the day the mother and son bathed and left the maternity house, Sītā Ṭhākurāṇī honored the Miśras and their son by giving them various garments and ornaments. Then, having received the respects of both Śacī-devī and Jagannātha Miśra, and feeling very joyful at heart, she returned home.
ঐছে শচী-জগন্নাথ, পুত্র পাঞা লক্ষ্মীনাথ,
পূর্ণ হইল সকল বাঞ্ছিত ।
ধন-ধান্যে ভরে ঘর, লোকমান্য কলেবর,
দিনে দিনে হয় আনন্দিত ।।২২।।

pūrṇa hôilô sakala bāñchita
dhana-dhānye bhare ghara, loka-mānya kalebara,
dine dine haya ānandita (22)
① aiche—In this way; śacī-—Śacī-devī; jagannātha—Jagannātha Miśra; putra—son; pāĩyā—having gotten; lakṣmī-nātha—husband of the Goddess of Fortune; ② pūrṇa hôilô—fulfilled; sakal—all; bāñchita—desires; ③ dhan—wealth; dhānye—grains; bhare—filled; ghar—house; loka—people; mānya—worshipped; kalebar—body; ④ dine dine—day by day; hay—became; ānandita—delighted.
In this way, Śacī-devī and Jagannātha Miśra, having obtained the husband of the goddess of fortune as their son, had all their desires fulfilled. Seeing their home full of riches and grains and graced by the venerable form of their son, their delight grew with each passing day.
মিশ্র—বৈষ্ণব, শান্ত, অলম্পট, শুদ্ধ, দান্ত,
ধনভোগে নাহি অভিমান ।
পুত্রের প্রভাবে যত, ধন আসি’ মিলে তত,
বিষ্ণুপ্রীতে দ্বিজে দেন দান ।।২৩।।

putrera prabhābe ĵatô, dhana āsi’ mile tatô,
viṣṇu-prīte dvije dena dāna (23)
① miśra—Jagannātha Miśra; vaiṣṇava—Vaiṣṇava; śānta—peaceful; alampaṭa—regulated; śuddha—pure; dānta (jitendriya)—controlled; ② dhan-bhoge—in wealth and opulence; nāhi—not; abhimān—pride; ③ putrer—of the son; prabhābe—by the influence; ĵatô—whatever; dhan—wealth; āsi’—having come; mile—he gets; tatô—that much; ④ viṣṇu-prīte—for the satisfaction of Viṣṇu; dvije—to the brāhmaṇas; den—he gives; dāna—charity.
Jagannātha Miśra was an ideal Vaiṣṇava: peaceful, regulated, pure, and composed. He was not inclined to indulge in material opulence. Whatever wealth he received due to [the birth of] his darling boy, he distributed in charity to the brāhmaṇas for the satisfaction of Lord Viṣṇu.
লগ্ন গণি’ হর্ষমতি, নীলাম্বর চক্রবর্ত্তী,
গুপ্তে কিছু কহিল মিশ্রেরে ।
‘মহাপুরুষের চিহ্ন, লগ্নে অঙ্গে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন,
দেখি’,—এই তারিবে সংসারে ।।২৪।।’
lagna gaṇi’ harṣamati, nīlāmbara cakravartī,
gupte kichu kahilô miśrere
‘mahāpuruṣera cihna, lagne aṅge bhinna bhinna,
dekhi’,—ei tāribe saṁsāre’ (24)
① lagna—rising time; gaṇi’—having calculated; harṣamati—pleased mind; nīlāmbara cakravartī—Nīlāmbara Cakravarti; ② gupte—in private, in secret; kichu—something; kahilô—he said; miśrere—to Jagannātha Miśra; ③ mahāpuruṣer—of a great personality; cihna—signs, symptons; lagne—in the rising time; aṅge—in the body; bhinna bhinna—various different; ④ dekhi’—having seen; ei—this; tāribe—He will deliver; saṁsāre—from the material universe.
After making the astrological calculations, Nīlāmbara Cakravartī became very pleased and spoke something in private to Jagannātha Miśra: “On His body and in His astrological chart, this boy has all the signs of a great personality. I see that He will deliver the material universe.”
ঐছে প্রভু শচীঘরে, কৃপায় কৈল অবতারে,
যেই ইহা করয়ে শ্রবণ ।
গৌরপ্রভু দয়াময়, তাঁ’রে হয়েন সদয়,
সেই পায় তাঁহার চরণ ।।২৫।।
aiche prabhu śacī-ghare, kṛpāy kôilô avatāre,
ĵei ihā karôwe śravaṇa
gaura-prabhu dayāmaya, tā̃’re hayena sadaya,
sei pāya tā̃hāra caraṇa (25)
① aiche—in this way; prabhu—the Lord; śacī-ghare—in the house of Śacī-devī; kṛpāy—out of mercy; kôilô avatāre—He advented; ② ĵei—he who; ihā—this; karôwe śravaṇ—having listened; ③ gaura-prabhu—the Supreme Master, Śrī Gaurahari; dayāmay—merciful; tā̃’re—to him; hayen—having become; saday—merciful; ④ sei—he; pāy—attains; tā̃hār—His; caraṇa—feet.
In this way, the Lord mercifully made His advent in the house of Śacī-devī. The most compassionate Śrī Gaurahari shall bestow His mercy on that person who hears this narration; that person shall then attain Śrī Gaurahari’s lotus feet.
পাইয়া মানুষ-জন্ম, যে না শুনে গৌরগুণ,
হেন জন্ম তা’র ব্যর্থ হৈল ।
পাইয়া অমৃতধুনী, পিয়ে বিষগর্ত্ত-পানি,
জন্মিয়া সে কেনে নাহি মৈল ।।২৬।।
pāiyā mānuṣa-janma, ĵe nā śune gaura-guṇa,
henô janma tā’ra byartha hôilô
pāiyā amṛtadhunī, piye biṣagarta-pāni,
janmiyā se kene nāhi môilô (26)
① pāiyā—having attained; mānuṣa-janma—human birth; ĵe—he who; nā—not; śune—hears; gaura-guṇa—Śrī Gaurāṅga’s qualities; ② henô—such; janma—birth; tā’r—his; byartha—useless; hôilô—became; ③ pāiyā—having attained; amṛtadhunī (amṛtera nadī)—river of nectar; piye—he drinks; biṣ—poison; garta—pit; pāni—water; ④ janmiyā—having taken birth; se—he; kene—why?; nāhi—not; môilô—died.
The birth of one who has attained a human form but who does not hear the glories of Śrī Gaurahari is utterly useless. Despite having attained a river of nectar, he drinks water from a poisonous pit. Why didn’t he simply die at birth?
শ্রীচৈতন্য-নিত্যানন্দ, আচার্য্য-অদ্বৈতচন্দ্র,
স্বরূপ-রূপ-রঘুনাথদাস ।
ইঁহা সবার শ্রীচরণ, শিরে বন্দি নিজধন,
জন্মলীলা গাইল কৃষ্ণদাস ।।২৭।।

Placing the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Nityānanda Prabhu, Ācārya Advaitacandra, Svarūpa Dāmodara, Rūpa Gosvāmī, and Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī upon his head, regarding them as his own wealth, this Kṛṣṇadāsa has thus described the advent pastime [of Śrī Gaurasundara].
