Background:

Established in 1992, The University of Akron Upward Bound Regional Math and Science Program is a unique effort to promote the pursuit of undergraduate mathematics and science education among high school students meeting program criteria. With a particular focus on polymer science, the program features 3 distinct components: a six-week summer residential program; a bridge program; and

academic year activities. Believed to be the nation’s only pre-college polymer program, it takes advantage of Akron’s location in the heart of “Polymer Valley” and the state-of-the-art resources available in The University of Akron’s Polymer Science facilities. The Upward Bound Math & Science Program at The University of Akron is funded through a five-year grant provided by the U.S. The current five-year cycle began on October 1, 2012. The yearly award amount is $297,034 and total five-year award is $1,485,170. Program Objective:

Students will maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75 or higher
Students will achieve proficient level on state assessments
Students will continue in high school each year and graduate from high school
Students will complete a rigorous course of study in high school
Students will enroll in college the fall semester immediately following high school graduation
Students will graduate from college with an associates or bachelors degree
