Fellow white people, we have GOT to do better. It is time to stop being spoon-fed by black and brown activists and to start taking action ourselves.
What are we doing on a regular basis to question our own biases and prejudices?
What are we doing on a regular basis to put a stop to these hate crimes and end white supremacy?
How are we organizing to create a better, more equitable place to live for people who are victims of hate crimes, racism, and discrimination?
Obviously what we have been doing is not enough, however, getting stuck in the feeling of “not enough” is also not a helpful narrative, as it often leads to burnout and a spiral of self-hate. So think about what you can actually do in your neighborhood, your workplace, your community that is more than what you are doing now. That will set something in motion. It doesn’t have to be big, but it needs to be something.
I am also brainstorming on this for what I can do that will actually make an impact where I live. I work with mostly Asian communities in my school - I am going to be spending more time in the coming days asking them and thinking about what I can do to better support the students and families I work with.
If you need to start small - start small - but start SOMEWHERE.

The Ohio Governor has threatened to withhold the 2nd doses of vaccines to public school staff in Ohio. He is making it seem like schools are unwilling to open by the agreed upon start date - when in reality - he didn’t hold up his end of the agreement to vaccinate all staff by Feb. 1st in order for his proposed March 1st start date to be possible. To use the vaccine as a bargaining chip is negligent to the health of all Ohioans.
Sign the petition (on the Akron DSA bio link ) to get teachers the 2nd vaccines.

In Akron, school staff has been vaccinated in the Akron School District. But now we're told they won't go back until March 15. That is not acceptable.

Not all staff has even received their 1st vaccine, meaning they can’t get the 2nd one until after March 1. YOU said all teachers would get it 2/1. Also, we are already doing a hybrid model, which is what we signed onto in the agreement for March 1. Your lies are unacceptable.

Anytime an elected official or really any non-teacher discusses reopening schools without prioritizing teacher’s lives - I become irate. THE LIVES OF TEACHERS ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN ANYONE’S EDUCATION.
I’m tired of the continual capitalistic bu****it that prioritizes progress, success, profit, and politics over human lives.
One of the MANY reasons I am happy to be soon leaving this profession is the continual disregard for teachers’ humanity. I am not a martyr. I also do not care more about student’s academic achievements than I do my student’s wellness or my own.
And stop comparing teachers to “public servants” like police, military, and firefighters. Teachers never took an oath to serve and protect - and also, much easier to do our jobs effectively when we aren’t worried about dying from it.
AMERICA - GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT.

My life is more valuable than a set of academic standards that people made up to keep kids ‘on track.’”}

I agree with Angie here. I’m worried people will settle into this presidency and lose the fire that has sparked in this nation. Yes, today is a good one, but our nation still needs to work hard to begin to reconcile what is now over 200 years of policies that perpetuate racism, poverty, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and general neglect of anyone who isn’t a white, rich cishet male.

I wasn’t thrilled to vote for them.
But I am cautiously hopeful.
The work is not finished.
We can’t get complacent.
We must continue to hold them accountable.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nothing short of a historical icon. My heart aches at the devastating loss of this incredible titan of the law. She was such a fighter in so many different ways and an incredible advocate for women and for the institution of justice. Her strength was...extraordinary. Thank you for everything you have done for us, Justice RBG. You fought for us until the very end. Rest in power...we will keep fighting for you. We must.
VOTE. VOTE EARLY. VOTE SAFELY. VOTE FOR THE CHANGE WE NEED. PLEASE.
