University of Akron College of Business Risk Management & Insurance faculty and students recently received national recognition during events focused on the future of the insurance industry.

At the National Association of Insurance Commissioners opening sessions, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Insurance Director Judith French highlighted UA’s RMI program and asked UA students to stand as representatives of higher education insurance programs across Ohio. Among them was Aareyan Lewis, RMI student and co-president of UA’s Gamma Iota Sigma chapter.

For Latoria Hamilton, associate professor of practice for finance, the moment was more than recognition — it was a reflection of the strong connections between The University of Akron and an industry actively investing in its future.

Through industry partnerships, professional development and hands-on experiences, our programs give students opportunities to learn from the professionals shaping the field — and to be recognized alongside them. For marketing students Abdallah Ndume and David Haydu, the 2026 National Sales Network Professional Conference in Washington, D.C., was about more than adding an experience to their resumes. It was about expanding their perspective on what comes next.

Alongside Dr. Vanja Djuric-Zoric, the students joined more than 2,600 professionals for three days of networking, professional development and conversations with leaders across industries. From career planning and leadership to building strategic relationships and professional visibility, they walked away with new insights — and a bigger vision for their futures.

Dr. Djuric-Zoric shared, “Experiential learning is about opening doors for our students. Experiences like NSN give them the opportunity to see what is possible, build relationships that can shape their careers, and recognize that they belong on a national and global stage. Our goal is to make sure UA students have access to those opportunities — and are prepared to make the most of them." 💬

From Akron to Montreal: Our UA accounting students competed among the best in the Tax Executives Institute’s International Tax Student Case Competition.

The students — Christopher Gavriloff, Jenna Clary, Heidi Coyle, and Caleb Vogt — represented The University of Akron among a select group of 14 universities from around the world invited to participate in the competition. Faced with a complex international tax case and just three hours to develop and present a recommendation, our students put their technical knowledge, critical thinking and communication skills to work — gaining a firsthand look at the global tax profession.

“This competition pushed all of us to think differently about how tax concepts translate into real business decisions,” said Clary 💬

Congrats to Christopher Gavriloff, Jenna Clary, Heidi Coyle, and Caleb Vogt for representing UA on the international stage and showing what it means to Experience Business beyond the classroom.
