๐ฟ๐๐ฟ Yarrow ๐ฟ๐๐ฟ
The strong aromatics of yarrow leaves and flowers are an excellent bug deterrent. We recommend that you crush and smell the yarrow youโre using to make sure it has a strong scent. If not, find fresher yarrow.
This spray is a convenient, safe, and effective way to keep mosquitoes at bay. The oil and vegetable glycerin keep yarrowโs scent on your skin longer than witch hazel alone will. This is best applied directly to the skin; it could leave oil stains if sprayed on clothing. For best results, reapply every couple of hours.
Directions:
1. Place the yarrow in a pint jar.
2. Mix the witch hazel distillate, carrier oil, and vegetable glycerin in a small bowl. Pour enough of this mixture into the jar to fill the jar and submerge the herbs completely. Stir well, then tightly cover and label it.
3. Store the jar in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks. Shake the jar daily for the first week. In the first few days, the dried yarrow will soak up some of the liquid. Add more witch hazel as necessary to keep the jar full.
4. Strain the tincture through cheesecloth, squeezing it well to extract all the liquid. If desired, add the lavender essential oil and stir well.
5. Use a funnel to pour the bug spray into clean spray bottles. Label and store in a cool, dark place.
