"Hello! My name is Nick Michael and I am a second year student at the University of Akron. I am currently working with the Spanish Education System in the North American Language and Cultural Assistants Program (NALCAP) for Spain. This program aims to place native English speakers in the classrooms of Spanish schools all across the country, from as low as preschool up until the baccalaureate level of education.

I arrived in my placement city of Granada in the autonomous region of Andalucia in late September before I started working in October. I work with two schools in the town just outside of Granada, Cullar Vega.

One of my schools is a preschool in which I work with children from ages 3-5, and the other school is a secondary school with students of 12-16 years old. Every week I get to help teachers of various subjects to teach their material in English, covering subjects such as biology, chemistry, geography, history, and English. I have the opportunity to create fun activities and lessons for the kids. Additionally, I teach them about culture and life in the United States while they teach me about the Spanish culture and way of life. A complete cultural exchange!

This program has also allotted me plenty of free time to see the amazing sights within and around Spain. I feel very fortunate to be placed in the historic and scenic city of Granada and to have 8 months to appreciate the language and culture in Andalucia."
