Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of rock music's greatest bassists of all time. His groovy lines are a huge part of the RHCP sound. Matthew DeRubertis, former FSM teacher and band coach breaks down several iconic bass lines of various difficulty levels in this workshop. Participants will learn to play the parts, and learn about how these lines weave with John Frusciante's guitar parts.
This workshop is great for: bass players of all levels, guitar players learning about bass playing.

A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, James Marron is an accomplished guitarist with international performance experience across Europe, Canada, and the United States. He brings over 30 years of teaching experience, specializing in Classical, Fingerstyle, Folk, Rock, and Jazz guitar.
James has taught at institutions including the University of Akron, Ashland University, the Cleveland Institute of Music Prep Department, Baldwin Wallace Prep, and Western Reserve Academy, and currently serves as a Guitar Instructor at the College of Wooster.

Salvatrice (Sally) Maltempi is a mezzo-soprano and graduate student at Kent State University’s Glauser School of Music, studying voice with Dr. Lara Troyer. With a background in both music and biochemistry, she brings a thoughtful, well-rounded approach to teaching.
Sally focuses on holistic, individualized instruction, using creative and sensory-based methods to make music accessible, expressive, and—most importantly—fun for every student.

Originally from Twinsburg, OH, Opal Curry is the Oboe & Bassoon Professor at the University of Mount Union and an active performer throughout Northeast Ohio. She holds a Master of Music in Performance from West Virginia University and dual bachelor’s degrees from Kent State University.
Opal’s teaching blends strong fundamentals with creativity and inclusivity, creating a supportive environment where students feel confident, capable, and inspired. With experience teaching students from Pre-K through college and performing across a wide range of ensembles, she is deeply committed to musical excellence and community engagement.
