Rubbertop is The University of Akron's literary journal and is entirely created by graduate students. They've got a big, beautiful vision for the journal now and moving into the future, and any funds they can raise will help bring their vision to fruition. The best weekend at Winter Wheat. 🌾 Saturday was spent in and out of workshops (including those led by Eric Wasserman and Mary Biddinger), tabling for Rubbertop Review and the University of Akron Press, meeting some of the UA Press poets, getting to hear the talented Oliver De La Paz read his work, and having quality group bonding time. We're so thankful we got to go to this regional conference, to meet writers from other places, and to find new insights for our own work. Ideas gleaned in workshops will definitely be making their way back to Upstart Crows meetings, so stay tuned!

A lovely Friday: we spent the afternoon in various workshops on topics such as performing poetry, ekphrasis, crafting hometowns in fiction, and more. In the evening, we all visited a bookstore/coffee shop (because what else are English majors supposed to do on a Friday night?) and happened to stumble upon an open mic! ...and also a couple Akron-y books 👀

Wonderful first meeting yesterday!

UA STUDENTS!! There's an awesome Unclass in the fall that you should consider taking. This interdisciplinary experiential course will focus on diving into Akron's vibrant arts & culture scene in the past and present. We'll be sleuthing through archives, learning about current cultural venues, and ultimately creating displays (and a mobile-friendly website) to get the community engaged with our work. Feel free to DM for details 😊
