The corner of a reconstructed gymnasium at Sardis. It is located in close proximity to the synagogue. Naked individuals in the gymnasium would have been the norm during the Roman period. Consequently, the juxtaposition of the two buildings highlights the moral conflicts that would have constantly presented themselves to both Jews and Christians during the Roman era.

Constantine's column in Istanbul. It commemorates the Constantine the Great, who is credited with legalizing Christianity. Even though he claims to have been converted to Christianity, this monument, along with a few others, also reflects a disturbing amount of paganism in his interpretation of the faith.

The Tuthmose Obelisk can be found in the hippodrome in Instanbul. This amazing structure was originally made for the temple at Karnak, Egypt. It was pilfered twice, once to Alexandria, and then to Constantinople. It's shocking to know that the kidnapping of ancient artifacts was not something that museums in the West originated. It has obviously been going on for quite some time.

The Asclepion at Pergamum, where there were said to be healing waters. Reminds us of the pool of Bethesda in the New Testament (John 5), which seems to make a similar claim.

Underneath the agora (ancient marketplace) at Smyrna are a series of arched tunnels like this one that supported the paving above. It is difficult not to image secret meetings held in places like this for the ancient followers of The Way.
