When you learn to fly IFR, it seems as though you'll be in the clouds the entire time. It's tiring but just relax because it isn't so. Sometimes you'll be in places like this.

To all friends and customers of Carolina Aviation.
You may or may not know but in an effort to keep our prices the lowest around, we are cutting overhead by giving up our office at the Aiken airport.
We are not going anywhere.
We’ll simply meet in the terminal or at the airplane which will be tied down on the line.
Our new phone number is 706-877-2572. It’s my mobile number so don’t be surprised if I answer with hello rather than Carolina Aviation and, Please, don’t hesitate to call anytime.
Have a great day,
Kirk Barrett

Don Camp, 82 years old, knows just about every flight instructor in the world yet flys to Carolina Aviation of Aiken LLC from New Smyrna Beach FL just to get a flight review.
It was great flying with you Don. Next time I’ll come to you and look up some friends from Daytona and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, my Alma Mater.

As pilots, we like to have backups. Sometimes, backups to our backups. This quiz will help you stay sharp on one example. You are in the left seat of a 1970s vintage airplane with a panel, like the one depicted, that has not had any instrument upgrades. You are trimmed for straight and level flight. While doing your regular interval instrument scan, you notice that the needle on the small gauge in the middle labeled "Suction", starts to drop. Question #1: Which instruments will soon be inaccurate? Question #2: Which instruments are your backups?

Most pilots will include a good headset and a good pair of sunglasses on their "most useful" list. They also have a "most useless" list. What is on your "most useless" list?

Most pilots remember their "firsts." Their first flight with an instructor. Their first "solo" flight. A student must demonstrate the knowledge and skills their instructor requires to fly alone or "solo." There is a tradition among the flying community to memorialize first solo flights. Upon return, the instructor cuts the tail from the student's shirt and writes an inscription on it.

How did this tradition get started? Early airplanes had two seats, one in front of the other. The instructor sat behind the student and pulled on their shirt tail to get their attention. Once a student became qualified to fly solo, they no longer needed a shirt tail.

We congratulate Connor and every other pilot who no longer needs their shirt tails. We hope you continue to enjoy more firsts as you increase your flying knowledge and skills and achieve more milestones.
