‘Choir’ by Chloe ❤️ :: “These words were written in response to an online choir assignment given from me to my students during this unprecedented time. The assignment was to have my students tell me how they would define choir. Chloe (who is graduating in two days and has been a student of mine since the 8th grade) wrote this beautiful definition that with her permission I am compelled to share.” ~ Joseph Woolf, Choral Music Teacher at Desert Hills High School (Utah, USA)

What’s a Song Structure?
If you're making music, this is one of the most important things to understand! Here's a simple breakdown of the classic song structure most hit songs follow:
📌 Standard Song Structure:
Intro
Sets the mood and pulls the listener in.
Verse 1
Tells the beginning of the story. This is where you set the scene.
Chorus
🔥 The main hook of the song. This part should be catchy and summarize the main message. Most people remember the chorus!
Verse 2
Goes deeper into the story. Builds connection with Verse 1.
Chorus
Same as the first chorus (or with small variations). This is your chance to hammer the message home.
Bridge
The “different” part! It gives contrast, creates tension, and usually leads to the climax.
Final Chorus
The big payoff. This is where everything comes together. Sometimes repeated twice for maximum impact.
Coda / Outro
The ending that wraps up the song nicely.
This structure (Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Chorus) is used in thousands of hit songs across pop, Afrobeats, hip-hop, gospel, etc. because it works.
It keeps the listener engaged, builds emotion, and gives them something memorable to sing along to.
