I am reshaping the horn today, adding on two independent striking areas on the outside edge of the horn to focus energy when striking.
I am also adding some gripping notches around the sides of the crook today, just to give some added grip when I am working the cane from the crook.

I am adding some modifications and improvements to my personal 1” oak self-defense cane including changing it from a round shaft to a teardrop shaft, adding sharks teeth to the striking edge, etc.
Next I will be adding a paracord wrap to two places on the shaft to allow better gripping when using the cane when my hands are sweaty, or wet from the rain.

When training with a partner, be extremely careful when using a wooden dan b**g.
To lessen the chance of injury, we suggest taking a pair of padded nunchucks that can be purchased for less than $10 and cutting the string that holds them together. This gives you a pair of safe practice dan b**gs to train with for less than $10.
This will allow you to practice dan b**g strikes and blocks with your partner to provide realistic training without causing serious injury.
Remember to exercise due caution when training, even with training weapons.

Besides the simple walking cane, my next favorite weapon to both use and teach is the dan b**g, or short stick.
The dan b**g is a very devastating weapon that is commonly used in the Korean martial art of Hapkido. Learning to use a simple short stick as a weapon teaches you to use almost anything as a "weapon of opportunity".
Dan b**gs can be different sizes, my personal dan b**g is 12" in length and 1" in diameter and is made from Robinia wood also known as black locust. The Janka hardness of Robinia wood is 1700 lbf, making it much harder wood than the oak which is used for my combat canes.
This is normally the second weapon that I start teaching students.
