With support from the KidsGardening Intergenerational Grant, AIS students and volunteers are working together to restore the Upper Campus with native Hawaiian plants.

After removing aggressive invasive species and clearing the area, students selected a location for a new garden bed and learned how to create a perimeter edge and build healthy soil using mulch and organic soil—creating an ideal environment for future native seedlings.

Guided by kūpuna Wayne Suzuki and Jeff Tom, haumāna (students) are building meaningful connections through hands-on learning across generations and a deeper connection to ʻāina (land).

This is just the beginning of our journey to restore and nurture native Hawaiian plant habitat on campus. Follow along and see what happens next!

AIS was well represented this past weekend at this year's 56th Annual Hana Relay.

Associate Principal Algerico Uganiza, along with teachers Kacey Martin and John Tunick, took turns running 52 miles along more than 600-plus curves and more than 51 one-lane bridges, mostly oceanside, climbing and dropping through the rainforest the entire way.

The race provides an economic boost, and participants are encouraged to purchase food, supplies, and fuel directly from local businesses and vendors along the Hāna Highway to give back to the isolated communities hosting the race.

Aiea Intermediate School recently came together for a meaningful school assembly focused on the positive growth and progress our students have demonstrated throughout the start of the school year.

Principal Michael Jose also addressed the importance of learning how to navigate disagreements and conflict, reminding students that these skills take practice, patience, and resilience.

Through our P.R.I.D.E. values—Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence—students are encouraged to make positive choices and support one another.

The assembly also celebrated students who exemplified these core values, with several students recognized and awarded prizes for demonstrating P.R.I.D.E. in action.

As we continue the school year, we are proud to see our students growing not only academically, but also as responsible, respectful, and resilient members of our school community.

Aiea Intermediate School – Kamali‘i Kickoff Week – Part 2

Aloha Kamali‘i ‘Ohana! 💚🖤 What an incredible start to the 2026-2027 school year!
We kicked things off with our inaugural Kamali‘i Kickoff, and the energy on campus has been absolutely electric as we welcomed our 7th and 8th graders back to school! 🎒✨

This week focused on elevating our school’s culture. 🙌 Our entire staff locked arms to set clear expectations and ensure our students are set up for ultimate success. 📊💪
