📚 Discover North Carolina's Connection to Holocaust History

Join Roanoke-Chowan Community College for "The Stories We Tell: North Carolina's Links to the Holocaust," presented by Jeremy Wilson, history instructor, and Staci Wilson, executive director of Learning Support Services at Catawba Valley Community College.

This thought-provoking presentation brings Holocaust education closer to home by exploring the stories of North Carolinians whose lives intersected with events in N**i Germany from 1933 to 1945. Attendees will learn about the barriers created by American laws and customs, the courage and resilience of Holocaust survivor Gizella Gross Abramson, and the journeys of the Gilde and Marx families as they sought refuge in the United States.

The presentation will also highlight the creation of the Gilde-Marx Holocaust and Genocide Studies Collection at the Catawba Valley Community College Library.

This event is part of R-CCC's Americans and the Holocaust exhibition programming and is free and open to the public.

📚✨ Grand Opening Today at the R‑CCC Library!
Roanoke‑Chowan Community College celebrated the grand opening of the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibition this morning in the R‑CCC Library. This nationally recognized exhibit — developed by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Library Association — is visiting only 50 libraries nationwide, and R‑CCC is the sole host site in North Carolina during the 2024–26 tour.

Dr. Murray J. Williams, R‑CCC President, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing how the exhibition invites our community to reflect on the choices individuals and institutions made during one of history’s most critical moments. Guests explored powerful artifacts, photographs and personal stories, guided by trained docents and volunteers from the Ahoskie Woman’s Club.

Starting August 24, exhibit hours will be 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Monday – Thursday and 9 a.m. – Noon on Friday – Saturday through September 25. All events are free and open to the public.

Join us again on Monday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. for our Book Club Program. Participants will receive a free copy of The Book Thief or Maus and take part in a guided discussion connected to themes in the exhibition.
