Community Safety Reminder: Scammers Impersonating School Staff

Lincoln County School District #2 has learned that scammers are contacting students while posing as teachers, coaches, staff, or the district itself. In some cases they're offering fake scholarships, grants, or other financial opportunities; in others they're directly requesting money, gift cards, etc.

To be clear: these messages are not coming from our staff or district. Scammers impersonating schools — including with fake scholarship or funding offers — is an unfortunately common tactic, and we want every family aware of it.

Please talk to your student about:

• No school staff member will ever ask a student for money, gift cards, or banking information by text or app
• Legitimate scholarships and financial opportunities from our district or partners will always be verifiable directly through the
school — never only through a text or DM
• If your student gets an offer or request like this, they should not respond — instead, verify it directly with the school or a trusted adult
• Report anything suspicious to a trusted adult right away
