The JC/LISD Academy would like to welcome Alicia Pearce as the new English Language Arts Instructor! Alicia Pearce has been an educator for more than 20 years, and she is excited for the opportunity to teach English at the JC / LISD Academy. After earning a degree in secondary education from Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!), she obtained a Master's in library and information science from Wayne State University. Alicia previously taught at Riverview Community Schools, Lake Orion Community Schools, and Pierre Touissant Academy in Detroit. In 2016, she left the classroom for a few years to work with student teachers at Bowling Green State and Heidelberg Universities in Ohio.
In her free time, she reads, researches her family history, and watches British detective shows. Alicia also enjoys spending time with her favorite people: her husband, Jim, and her sons, Ben and Campbell. Welcome Mrs. Pierce!

Mrs. Dusseau will have a new look when students return to school in a few weeks. She decided to get a back-to-school haircut and donate 8 inches to Children With Hair Loss! And of course, she had to represent the JC/LISD Academy and our service to community while doing so!

We are pleased to announce that recent JC/LISD Academy graduate Tobias Ziemer has been awarded the Adrian Morning Rotary Service Above Self Youth Award!

Tobias has always been a leader and positive role model at the JC/LISD Academy. Tobias was instrumental in arranging for Irene Butter, Holocaust Survivor and author of Shores Beyond Shores, to visit and speak with the students of the JC/LISD Academy. Tobias contacted Mrs. Butter and, working with LISD administration, made the arrangements for Mrs. Butter's visit all on his own. This experience was incredibly power for the students at the JC/LISD Academy and is reflective of Tobias' desire to help create a more understanding and tolerant world. Tobias always stretches himself to see things from others perspective and to take part in activities where he can learn about others. Tobias has participated in over 100 hours of community services for organizations including Habitat for Humanity Pasty Project, Habitat for Humanity Restore, Catherine Cobb, Operation Christmas Child, and as a volunteer driver for the Lenawee Department on Aging. Tobias has also represented the JC/LISD Academy at the Michigan Early Middle College Association (MEMCA) Conferences. Tobias is an excellent student who has achieved a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Tobias is the co-president and a founder of the JC/LISD Academy GSA, a Jackson College Phi Theta Kappa member, and a Jackson College Dean’s List recipient. He has also attended the National Student Leadership Conference for psychology and neuroscience.
