Institute of Agricultural Technology

From Nathan Westfall:

The MSU Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT) provides access to academic short programs focused on practical education, relevant skill development and applied experiences. Prospective students can explore IAT certificate programs and different enrollment locations at iat.msu.edu.

Students can apply for free during the month of October using the application fee waiver code IAT1855. They will need to fill out the application and move on to pay the application fee. This is where they request a fee waiver and enter the waiver code in the comments. Once approved, they will then sign in to their IAT application dashboard to complete the process and submit it to the IAT. Official transcripts sent from the high school to MSU are required to complete their application materials.

Thank you for sharing this information with your students. Please direct them to me for questions about the IAT admissions process.

On Friday, students in Horticulture, Natural Resources and Building Trades collaborated on a fun project to press apples into cider from the CSF apple trees.

Mr. Biggs brought his cider press to tech the students a fun way to make a food product from farm to table. Dr. Kratz taught students about apple varieties, and Mrs. Lentz taught students about the apple industry in Michigan. Mrs. Wegner even made some homemade applesauce to highlight another apple product.

Students had an opportunity to test test the apple cider they made.

A BIG shout out and thank you to the Culinary program and Mr. Lehman for making fresh doughnuts!! They were the best doughnuts any of us had ever had...the students also said that eating the doughnuts was thier favorite part of the activity.

Any students interested in applying to MSU, see this information below!

I hope this email finds you well. This is Stacy Mills from the MSU Office of Admissions and regrettably again this fall, I will not be traveling in-person to my area high schools. However, in place of high school visits, there are several opportunities that I would like to highlight below to assist you and your students.
Free Application Fee: Oct 1 -7
• MSU will once again be participating in the MCAN College Application Month and will be offering student’s a free application fee if they apply during the week of October 1-7 and use the code: Sparta1855. This can be used for our own admissions application at https://admissions.msu.edu/apply or the Common App at https://www.commonapp.org/ . Please note that refunds are not available.
Virtual Events

• Virtual Evening Event with MSU: Oct 5 (click the link to RSVP)
I am hosting a virtual evening event on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, from 6:00-7:00 pm. This will be a live virtual presentation and Q/A session. Have your students visit https://explore.msu.edu/register/?id=eefa3790-8b3c-4769-99e9-8196885384d8 to sign up and then the link to the event will be provided.
• Virtual Event with your school: If you/your students are interested in scheduling a virtual visit to learn more about MSU and ask questions, let me know and we can schedule something through Zoom either as a group or individually.
In-Person Events
• MSU Campus Tour: (Various dates/times)
A short presentation followed by a guided walking tour of campus. The presentation is geared towards prospective first-year students. Please visit https://admissions.msu.edu/visit to make a reservation. Please note that the tour does not include access to residence hall rooms at this time.
• Go Blue + Go Green: (Various dates/locations)
MSU is pairing up with U of M, and we are hitting the road together.
Though we may be rivals in sports, academics, and more, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University both agree that students from your area should consider their schools for their college education. That’s why we’re teaming up for Go Blue + Go Green this fall, and your students are invited.
We hope you will share this information with your students.
