The LISD TECH Center in Adrian is seeking a teaching assistant for their Machining & Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) program.

This position requires 4,000 hours of recent and relevant industry experience within the past 10 years. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career, someone looking for a new adventure, or even someone heading into retirement.

This salaried position has a set schedule (7:45am – 2:50pm) for 188 days per
year with weekends, holidays, and summers off.

Students in the recent "Are You Game For This" career exploration camp experienced an upper-level focus related to game design and strategies revolving around Esports! They had an incredible visit to PlaneWave! Students saw what loving working with your hands and being creative can get you. PlaneWave was awarded the Coolest Thing in Michigan award for the PW1000 Observatory System. What a hidden gem for the community! Students played and critiqued a variety of online games. They competed individually, in pairs, and in a classroom atmosphere against all. They designed and published their own video games and were introduced to the many career opportunities related to this creative outlet. Sometimes the things you love and enjoy will spark a path you didn't realize!

Students attending the Career Exploration Camps at the LISD TECH Center, To Game Or Not To Game, had quite the week. The students designed and created a plethora of games. They also visited Lenawee Recreation for a behind the scenes look at the bowling alley and how the machines come together to create a fun game for families of all ages. They also bowled themselves! They were able to see them come to life and followed the Engineering Design Process to change and improve the games as well. They designed their own video games and published them to the web! Students used a variety of materials to also create an arcade that families and other camps visited and played. So much fun and so inspiring!

Students in the Art of Drawing Letters Career Exploration Camp learned about the rising popularity of hand lettering and calligraphy. Campers were able to use pressure sensitive tools to create beautiful calligraphy and learned how to turn their lettering into a digital image to re-use, color, and edit. In addition to this amazing sidewalk chalk art, they also created bookmarks, stickers, magnets, and buttons!

Do you have a manufacturing background and an interest in education? We are seeking a Teacher Assistant for the Machining & Computer Aided Manufacturing program!

This program teaches students how to work in today’s advanced manufacturing facilities by operating manual machine tools and CNC machines. Students also will learn machine shop safety, industrial blueprint reading, and precision measurement, and basic fabrication.

The Automotive Custom Paint camp kicked off this week. This camp focuses on basic and custom paint techniques from candy, pearlescent paints to wood graining and water droplet techniques.

Students are getting creative in the Photoshop Magic! summer camp. Here are some photos of their favorite projects this week. Students created mythical creatures, designed their own buttons, used the design process to create their own version of energy drinks and shoe designs, practiced presenting and marketing their ideas, designed and printed notepads, and manipulated video files to make cinemagraphs.

Students attending the Career Exploration Camps at the LISD TECH Center, Dream Big! One Brick At A Time, visited PlaneWave Instruments INC to see and hear about their latest and greatest ventures! Chris Miller was a fantastic resource for the students as they saw and heard about all the pieces to this incredible venue! PlaneWave Instruments is an incredible asset for Lenawee County! They produce and design telescopes for the backyard observer to exploring at the observatory level! Their latest product related to an observatory was named 2022 Coolest Thing Made in Michigan! The students were able to see how an interest they may have in building, designing, and working together can definitely allow them to Dream Big!

Participants in the "You Be the Surgeon" summer camp have been learning how to use a centrifuge to analyze blood samples, how to use a stethoscope to hear heart/lung/GI sounds, building a beating heart and lungs, analyzing X-Rays for fractures, and learning how to don and dof PPE for infection control.

Junior Chemist campers try their hands as a real Mad Scientist in this whirlwind camp packed solid with cool reactions. They explore bubbling potions, giant bubbles, magic rainbow milk, Flubber, ice cream in a bag, Oobleck the magic liquid, oil and watercolor painting, and MUCH MORE! They start out the week learning about chemistry and how to be a chemist at a personal lab tech bench. Then, spend a day creating their very own Erupting Volcano! Next, they find out how different chemicals react when mixed together as they build and break molecules. They ooze into a gooey day of making crazy concoctions such as Oobleck, Flubber, and ice cream! Campers take home a full set of Mad Science lab gear that includes goggles and a lab coat.!

Congratulations to these three LISD TECH Center Accounting students who competed in the 2023 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference earlier this spring in Anaheim, CA.

Anastasia Richards (Tecumseh HS, left), a first year student and 2023 Michigan BPA State Finalist in Fundamentals of Accounting competed in the same event at the national conference, placing 19th out of 75 students in the nation.

Hannah Leupold (Madison HS, center), a second year student, competed in the Advanced Accounting event, finishing 14th out of 42 students in the nation,

Shane Adams (Addison HS, right), a second year student, competed in the Advanced Accounting event, and was recognized on stage with a medal for his 10th place finish. Shane previously placed 3rd in an event at last year's national conference.

Congratulations to Cooper Hernandez (Tecumseh High School), this year’s recipient of the LISD TECH Center Gold Hammer Award. This award has been presented to an outstanding student in the Residential Construction program for 55 years. Cooper was recognized for his versatility on this year’s tiny house projects and received a filled tool belt from Lowe’s of Adrian.

Brendan Cross (Tecumseh), Matt Marsh (JC/LISD Academy), and Asher Wiser (Britton Deerfield), were also selected by peers as candidates for this honor. All four students were presented with prizes, including a bucket of tools from Big C Lumber.

It was another successful day for Nursing prep students seeking additional NHA certifications!

Natalie Morr (LCS) added certified patient care technician (CPCT-A) to her accomplishments.
Wyatt Cole (Madison)- added to additional certifications; certified patient care technician (CPCT-A) and certified EKG technician (CET)
Shantzee Henderson & Mackenzi Fox (both from Hudson)- obtained her CPT- certified phlebotomy certification

Very proud of all the Nursing Prep students accomplishment this year. A total of 236 college credits and 33 state recognized certifications.

The LISD TECH Center Nursing Prep students had the opportunity to dual enroll at Jackson College in the Phlebotomy Technician course. These 10 students have completed 30 successful venipunctures, 10 capillary punctures, passed the course and completed an optional clinical experience at Hillsdale Hospital. These students recently passed the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) certification exam. They can proudly display CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) after their names. For all of these students, this is their second certification during their senior year. They first achieved their State of Michigan CNA certification at the end of 2022. Each and every one of them will be working during the summer before continuing their education as future health care providers.
