Our instructional coaches spent part of last week at the Middle Georgia Instructional Coaches’ Conference learning about updates and new information for next year. Thank you, ladies, for always staying on top of things, pushing forward, and supporting our teachers! We’re looking forward to starting strong in the 2026-2027 academic year! 🖤💛

Cook County Schools hosted BTAM training for our district team yesterday, June 4, 2026. Thank you Laural Heard and Richard Herrin for organizing this event. The safety of our faculty, staff, students, and families is always our top priority! 🖤💛

GaDOE is announcing the release of a first-of-its-kind state resource designed to strengthen school safety by connecting student support systems with behavioral threat assessment and management (BTAM).

The new resource was developed by GaDOE’s Office of Whole Child Supports in partnership with the United States Secret Service – National Threat Assessment Center, the National Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and with input from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.

For families and communities, implementation will mean schools are better equipped to notice concerns early, respond in appropriate ways, and connect students with support before situations become more serious.

We can’t wait to see our 2026 graduates fill these seats tonight!! THANK YOU, Mr. Kelsie Mitchell, for the beautiful Hornet mascot!! 🐝

Seniors,

In the year 2012, when you began Pre-K at the age of 4, we called you the Class of 2026. The year 2026 seemed like an eternity away. We blinked, and it’s GRADUATION DAY!

Graduation is a celebration of one of your biggest accomplishments in life. You have worked hard for 14 years. You have proven your success. What an honor and an amazing achievement!

We all know that it takes a village. If you are a parent or guardian of one of our Cook High graduates, thank you! Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and your dedication to seeing that your child achieves his or her goals. Thank you for joining our faculty and staff in being your child’s biggest cheerleader. Thank you for your support of the Cook County School System.

We pray that graduation is one of the first of many milestones and celebrations in your life. May these past 14 years be full of memories that you will never forget. May you always remember who you are and what you stand for. You are ENOUGH! You each have a story to tell. Continue to write the chapters!

As one of our favorite authors, Dr. Suess, reminds us in his book “Oh The Places You Will Go!”

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own, and you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who will decide where to go.
“Oh the Places you will go!”

Congratulations, Class of 2026! Once a HORNET, Always A HORNET!

Joy J. Folsom, Superintendent &
Cook County Board of Education 🐝
